Nicolas Louis de Lacaille was a French astronomer and cartographer who made significant contributions to the field of astronomy. He is best known for his work on the classification of stars and his discovery of several new constellations. Lacaille was born in 1713 in Grasse, France and died in 1762 in Cape Town, South Africa. He was a member of the French Academy of Sciences and was awarded several honors for his work. Lacaille was also a skilled mathematician and made significant contributions to the field of mathematics. He is considered one of the most important astronomers of the 18th century.
