Nikolai Bukharin was a Russian Marxist theorist and politician who played a key role in the development of the Soviet Union. He was a close associate of Vladimir Lenin and was a leading figure in the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Bukharin was a prominent advocate for the New Economic Policy, which aimed to reform the Soviet economy. He was also a strong supporter of the Soviet Union's foreign policy, particularly in relation to the Comintern. Bukharin was arrested in 1937 and put on trial in 1938. He was found guilty of treason and was executed by firing squad. Bukharin's trial was highly publicized and was seen as a symbol of the Soviet Union's increasing repression of dissent.
