Oscar Micheaux

Oscar Micheaux was a film director, writer, and actor who was one of the first African Americans to achieve success in Hollywood. Born in 1884 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Micheaux began his career in the film industry in the early 1910s. He went on to direct over 40 films, including the classic drama 'Within Our Gates'. Micheaux was a pioneer for African American representation in film and was known for his innovative storytelling style. He was also a successful businessman and entrepreneur, and his company, Micheaux Film Corporation, was one of the first African American-owned film production companies in Hollywood.
