Professor of Sanskrit and Indian studies
Patrick Olivelle is a professor of Sanskrit and Indian studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He has written extensively on ancient Indian philosophy and culture. Olivelle is known for his work on the philosophy of Ashoka and its influence on Indian thought. He has also taught courses on ancient Indian history and culture. Olivelle has a Ph.D. in Sanskrit from the University of Chicago and has published several books on the subject. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
