Philippe Pétain was a French general and statesman. He served as the Chief of State of France during World War II and was a key figure in the collaboration with Nazi Germany. Pétain was a prominent figure in French politics before the war and was known for his conservative views. He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Légion d'Honneur and was named Marshal of France. Pétain died in 1951 and was buried in the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris. He is considered one of the most controversial figures in French history.
