Renaissance writer and satirist
Pietro Aretino was an Italian writer and satirist who lived in the 16th century. He is best known for his scathing critiques of the Catholic Church and his use of satire to comment on contemporary politics. Aretino was born in Arezzo, Italy, and began his career as a writer in the papal court of Leo X. He went on to become one of the most influential writers of his time, and his works include several collections of poetry and prose. Aretino died in 1536, but his legacy as a writer and satirist continues to be celebrated to this day.
