Prince Shōtoku was a Japanese prince and regent who played a significant role in the introduction of Buddhism to Japan. He is best known for his promotion of the Lotus Sutra and his establishment of temples such as Hōryū-ji. Prince Shōtoku was born in 574 and died in 622. He is considered one of the most important figures in Japanese history.
