Publius Vergilius Maro, known as Virgil, was a Roman poet and author. He is best known for his epic poem, the Aeneid. Virgil was born in 70 BCE and died in 19 BCE. He was a member of the Roman aristocracy and served as a consul. Virgil's works include the Aeneid, the Eclogues, and the Georgics. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets of the Roman Empire.
