Red Norvo was an American jazz vibraphonist, pianist, and bandleader. Born on January 11, 1908, in Rockford, Illinois, Norvo was a member of the Paul Whiteman Concert Band before becoming a solo star. He was known for his virtuosic xylophone playing and led several big bands throughout his career.
