Irish economist and philosopher
Richard Cantillon was an Irish economist and philosopher who lived in the 17th and 18th centuries. He is best known for his work on economic theory and his concept of the 'Cantillon effect', which describes how new money can affect the economy. Cantillon was a prominent figure in the development of modern economics and his ideas continue to influence economists today. He was born in 1685 and died in 1734. Cantillon was a member of the Irish Parliament and served as a diplomat for the French government. He was also a professor of economics at the University of Paris.
