Former FBI agent and convicted spy
Robert Hanssen is a former FBI agent who was convicted of spying for the Soviet Union and Russia. He was born in 1944 in Chicago, Illinois, and joined the FBI in 1976. Hanssen was arrested in 2001 and later convicted of espionage. He is currently serving a life sentence at the ADX Florence supermax prison. Hanssen's case is notable for its technicality, as he was able to avoid prosecution by claiming he was not a spy, but rather a victim of Soviet espionage. However, his claims were later found to be false.
