Convicted Murderer and Bird Expert
Robert Stroud was an American convicted murderer and ornithologist. Born in 1890, Stroud was known for his violent behavior and was sentenced to life in prison for murder. While incarcerated, Stroud developed a passion for birds and became an expert on their behavior and biology. He spent over 40 years in solitary confinement, during which time he wrote several books on ornithology. Stroud's work on birds earned him international recognition, and he became known as the "Birdman of Alcatraz". He died in 1963 while serving his sentence.
