Saidiya Hartman is a literary theorist and cultural critic. She is the author of several books, including 'Scenes of Subjection: Terror, Slavery, and Sovereignty in Nineteenth-Century Britain' and 'Lose Your Mother: A Journey Through Afro-Caribbean History'. Hartman has written for various publications, including The New Yorker and The London Review of Books. She is a frequent contributor to The Guardian and has been a finalist for the National Book Award. Hartman has also taught at several institutions, including Yale University and the University of California, Berkeley.
