Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was a French mystic and spiritual director who lived in the 17th century. She is best known for her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and her role in popularizing the devotion. Born in Paray-le-Monial, France, Alacoque was a member of the Visitation Sisters and spent much of her life in prayer and contemplation. She is now venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church.
