Samora Machel was a Mozambican politician and revolutionary who served as the President of Mozambique from 1975 to 1986. He was a key figure in the Mozambican War of Independence and was a prominent advocate for socialism and anti-colonialism. Machel was also a close ally of Nelson Mandela and was a key figure in the fight against apartheid.
