Sawney Freeman

Sawney Freeman was a Black composer and fiddle player who was active in the late 18th century. He is believed to have been one of the first Black composers to have his work published. Freeman's music was influenced by African American folk music and European classical music. He is considered an important figure in the history of African American music.
