Sheb Wooley was an American country singer, songwriter, actor, and musician. Born on December 10, 1921, in Los Angeles, California, Wooley is best known for his novelty song 'The Purple People Eater', which reached number one on the Billboard charts in 1955. He also appeared in numerous films and television shows, including 'The Lone Ranger' and 'The Roy Rogers Show'. Wooley passed away on October 9, 2003, at the age of 81.
