Director of the National Theatre
Sir Peter Hall was a British theatre director and producer. He was appointed Director of the National Theatre in 1973 and served in that role until 1988. Before that, he ran the Royal Shakespeare Company and was responsible for setting up their London base at the Aldwych. Hall was a highly respected figure in the world of theatre and was known for his innovative and provocative productions. He was also a prolific writer and published several books on theatre and drama. He was knighted in 1977 for his services to the arts. He was born in 1930 and died in 2017.
