Irish monk and missionary
St. Brendan was an Irish monk and missionary who lived in the 5th century. He is best known for his voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, which are said to have taken place centuries before Christopher Columbus. Brendan was born in County Kerry, Ireland and was ordained as a priest at a young age. He spent many years traveling throughout Europe and North Africa, spreading Christianity and establishing monasteries. Brendan is also known for his piety and his devotion to God, and is revered as a saint by the Catholic Church. He is the patron saint of Ireland and is celebrated on March 16th.
