Benedictine nun and mystic
St. Mechtilde of Hackeborn was a Benedictine nun who lived in the 13th century. She was born in 1205 and died in 1282. Mechtilde was known for her deep devotion to God and her ability to experience mystical visions. She was also a skilled writer and poet, and her works include the Book of Special Grace, which is a collection of her spiritual writings. Mechtilde was a member of the Benedictine community at Helfta, where she lived a simple and contemplative life. She is still venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church and is considered one of the most important female mystics of the Middle Ages.
