Theodor Herzl

Theodor Herzl was an Austrian journalist and writer who is best known as the founder of Zionism. He was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1860 and died in Paris, France in 1904. Herzl's writings on the need for a Jewish homeland in Palestine helped to shape the modern Zionist movement.
