Théroigne de Méricourt was a French revolutionary and protofeminist. She was born in 1762 in Dijon, France. She became involved in the French Revolution at a young age and quickly rose to prominence as a leader of the women's section of the National Guard. She was known for her bravery and her advocacy for women's rights. Théroigne was arrested and imprisoned several times during the Revolution, and she eventually ended up in a psychiatric institution. She died in 1836.
