Captain of the Mignonette yacht
Thomas Dudley was a British sailor and captain who commanded the Mignonette yacht on its ill-fated voyage in 1884. Born in 1840 in England, Dudley had a long and distinguished career at sea, with extensive experience in navigation and leadership. He was known for his bravery and seamanship, but also faced criticism for his decision-making during the voyage. Dudley's actions during the crisis led to a murder trial that changed the course of maritime law. He died in 1912, at the age of 72.
