Thomas Mayne Reid was an American author and historian born in 1818. He is best known for his classic novel 'The Headless Horseman', which was published in 1849. Reid was a prolific writer and wrote several other novels and short stories. He was also a historian and wrote extensively on the history of the American West. Reid passed away in 1885.
