Ulysses S. Grant was an American general and politician who served as the 18th President of the United States from 1869 to 1877. He is best known for his leadership during the American Civil War, where he led the Union Army to victory over the Confederacy. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio, and graduated from West Point in 1843. He served in the Mexican-American War and later became a career military officer, rising to the rank of general. After the war, Grant entered politics and was elected president in 1868. He is remembered for his strong leadership and his commitment to preserving the Union.
