Egyptian novelist and short story writer. Born in 1911 in Alexandria, Egypt. Considered one of the most important Egyptian writers of the 20th century. Known for his novels and short stories that explore Egyptian society and culture. Has received several awards for his writing, including the Egyptian State Prize for Literature. Has also been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1988.
