Peter Kürten was a German serial killer and rapist who was active in the 1920s. He is known as the Düsseldorf Vampire due to his alleged vampirism. Kürten was arrested in 1929 and confessed to 16 murders. He was executed by hanging in 1931. Kürten's case was highly publicized and remains one of the most infamous in German history.
