Vasco da Gama

Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer who is best known for being the first person to navigate a route from Europe to India. He was born in Sines, Portugal in 1469 and studied navigation and cartography. Da Gama's voyage to India was commissioned by the King of Portugal and was a major achievement in the history of exploration.
