Vittorio De Sica was an Italian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his work in the neorealist movement, which aimed to portray everyday life in Italy after World War II. De Sica directed over 40 films during his career, including the iconic film 'Bicycle Thieves'. He won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for 'Shoeshine'. De Sica passed away in 1974 at the age of 65.
