Philosopher of language
Willard Van Orman Quine was an American philosopher who made significant contributions to the fields of philosophy of language, epistemology, and logic. He is best known for his work on the nature of meaning and reference, and his famous thought experiment, the 'Gavagai' thought experiment. Quine was a prominent figure in the development of analytic philosophy and was a leading figure in the philosophy of language. He was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1969 and was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Quine passed away in 2000.
