Warren Hastings

Warren Hastings was a British East India Company official who served as Governor-General of Bengal from 1773 to 1785. He was a key figure in the expansion of British rule in India and was instrumental in the establishment of the British Raj. Hastings was impeached by the British Parliament in 1788 and tried for corruption and abuse of power. He was acquitted in 1795.
