American poet and physician
William Carlos Williams was an American poet, physician, and essayist. He is best known for his modernist poetry and his role as a leading figure in the Imagist movement. Williams was born in Rutherford, New Jersey, and grew up in a family of modest means. He studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and later became a practicing physician. However, he eventually turned to poetry full-time, and his work was widely acclaimed for its innovative style and its exploration of the human condition. Williams was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1940 for his collection 'Paterson'. He died in 1963 at the age of 80.
