William Dawes was an American patriot and rider who played a key role in the American Revolution. Born in 1720 in England, Dawes immigrated to Massachusetts in 1742 and became a prominent figure in the community. He was a skilled horseman and rider who was known for his bravery and cunning. Dawes was involved in several key events leading up to the Revolution, including the Midnight Ride, and was a member of the Sons of Liberty. He worked closely with other prominent patriots, including Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. Dawes is best known for his daring and overlooked midnight ride on April 18, 1775, which warned of the approaching British army and helped to galvanize the American colonists to take action.
