Former US Attorney General
William F. Stewart was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 41st United States Attorney General from 1953 to 1957. Born on May 9, 1895, in Nashville, Tennessee, Stewart graduated from Vanderbilt University and later attended the University of Virginia Law School. He began his career as a lawyer in Nashville before serving in the US Army during World War I. Stewart was appointed as the US Attorney General by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and served in that position until 1957. During his tenure, he was involved in several high-profile cases, including the desegregation of the University of Alabama. Stewart passed away on July 8, 1989.
