William Jennings Bryan was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 45th United States Secretary of State from 1913 to 1915. He was a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and was known for his strong advocacy of free silver and his opposition to imperialism. Bryan was also a skilled orator and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1890. He was a strong advocate for education and was a key figure in the establishment of the University of Nebraska. Bryan was also a vocal opponent of evolution and was a key figure in the Scopes Monkey Trial.
