American cartoonist and humorist
William S. Gilbert was an American cartoonist, humorist, and satirist. He is best known for his work on the comic strip A Bird's-Eye View of Politics, and for his collaborations with Charles Joseph Guiteau on the comic opera Gilbert and Sullivan. Gilbert was a prolific writer and artist, and his work often featured witty commentary on politics and society. He was also a talented musician and composer, and wrote many songs and operas. Gilbert was born in 1836 in New York City, and died in 1911 in London. He is remembered as one of the most influential and beloved cartoonists of his time.
