British author and playwright
William Somerset Maugham was a British author, playwright, and diplomat. He is best known for his novels and short stories, particularly 'Of Human Bondage' and 'The Moon and the Sixpence'. Maugham was a prominent figure in the literary world of the early 20th century and was known for his witty dialogue and insightful portrayals of human nature. He was also a diplomat and served as the British consul in several countries. Maugham's work often explored themes of love, morality, and the human condition. He was awarded the Order of Merit in 1919 and was knighted in 1919. Maugham died in 1965.
