0:44
You are beautifully unique so why show up to life as anyone else?
0:55
Hey, hey, welcome to the podcast.
0:58
I had so much fun talking about the mind in the last episode that I thought would continue
1:03
with the mind and talk about something that's running in the background of your life.
1:09
It's quiet, it's extremely efficient and it doesn't really make itself known to you,
1:15
but it is shaping what you see, what you notice, what feels significant, what feels threatening,
1:23
what feels validating, and most of the time you don't even realize it's happening.
1:28
That's called the reticular activating system or the RAS or the RAS.
1:35
So the RAS is one of the reasons two people can live in the same world and experience completely
1:41
different realities.
1:43
So the RAS sits in your brainstem and its job is simply but extremely extraordinary.
1:51
Every second, your nervous system is receiving millions of pieces of sentry input.
1:57
It's just coming at you, just so much of it, light variations, tone shifts, subtle facial
2:03
movements, temperature changes, background noises, micro expressions, there is so much going
2:09
on and it's coming at us, just millions of pieces of information per second.
2:15
And so if you consciously process all of it, you would shut down.
2:19
You'd go into overwhelm, like overdrive and basically shut down, a little bit like what
2:24
my last laptop was doing every time I gave it something new to do.
2:28
So the RAS filters, it decides what gets prioritized in your awareness.
2:35
Now this is fairly important.
2:37
It filters according to what it already believes is important, not what is objectively true.
2:46
It filters what is familiar.
2:49
It aligns with existing beliefs, what could be a threat.
2:53
This is survival intelligence.
2:56
It is so super intelligent, this is not sabotage.
3:00
This is a really complex, in-depth survival intelligent.
3:05
So here's an example that most people will instantly recognise.
3:09
You decide you want a new car.
3:11
So you choose the model and you pick a colour.
3:14
Let's say it's yellow.
3:16
A colour you've not really particularly noticed before.
3:20
And then suddenly, what do you see?
3:22
Yellow cars are everywhere.
3:25
They weren't just to live it overnight.
3:27
All of a sudden they didn't produce more yellow cars.
3:29
They were always there, but you're filtered changed.
3:33
And so the moment your brain tagged yellow car as important, your RAS began highlighting
3:41
Same roads, same traffic, just different awareness.
3:44
And to take that out of cars and into identity, if somewhere in your internal condition you
3:51
carry the belief of, I'm not enough, your RAS will highlight moments that confirm in
3:58
It will amplify subtle criticism.
4:01
It will replay neutral feedback as negative.
4:04
It will skip over evidence of competence.
4:08
And it's not doing this maliciously, it's doing it mechanically.
4:12
And if we think of the law of mentalism, this becomes very practical, because experience
4:20
You are not interacting with raw reality.
4:23
You are interacting with your nervous system rendering of it, like I mentioned in the
4:30
The law of correspondence, as within, so without.
4:34
Your internal patterns shape what you notice externally.
4:39
Your filter highlights that matching evidence.
4:43
And so life appears to validate your conditioning.
4:46
And it's not because the universe is punching you, but because your system is so goddamn
4:53
So let's go a little bit deeper.
4:55
You will always have thoughts.
4:58
You will always have fear.
5:02
And your RAS is particularly sensitive to fear.
5:06
It's because uncertainty equals unfamiliar.
5:10
And unfamiliar equals potential threat.
5:13
And threat equals prioritise.
5:16
So when you grow, and I mean when you evolve, when you stretch beyond what is known,
5:22
your system activates.
5:24
And this is where many people misinterpret the experience.
5:27
They think fear means wrong.
5:29
They think activation means stop.
5:32
They think anxiety means I'm not ready.
5:35
But what's actually happening is the law of polarity.
5:39
Expansion and contraction are inseparable.
5:42
You cannot expand without feeling contraction.
5:46
Fear is contraction.
5:47
Growth is expansion.
5:49
They upholds of the same movement.
5:53
So when you step towards something new, like starting a business or ending the relationship
5:58
or raising your visibility, increasing your income, your RAS scans for evidence of
6:05
It highlights what could go wrong.
6:08
It accelerates your thoughts.
6:10
And this is not failure.
6:14
And the law of rhythm tells us everything swings like a pendulum.
6:19
Confident swings into doubt.
6:21
Clarity swings into uncertainty.
6:24
Momentum swings into pause.
6:27
And so when fear shows up at your next level, it doesn't mean you've regressed.
6:33
It just simply means that you've moved into new territory.
6:36
The fear doesn't disappear.
6:39
And the fear of starting becomes a fear of being seen.
6:43
And the fear of being seen becomes a fear of sustaining success.
6:47
And then the fear of sustaining success becomes a fear of losing it like it continues to
6:54
It's the same mechanism.
6:55
It's just a new altitude that you're looking from.
6:58
And so this is where the law of cause and effect becomes so personal, like I mentioned
7:03
the last episode, every time fear arises, you make a choice.
7:09
And this is often unconsciously.
7:11
If fear arises and you shrink, delay, overthink, retreat, that becomes the cause.
7:18
The effect is reinforcing that conditioning.
7:22
Orass strengthens the belief that this territory is unsafe.
7:29
And so you're filtered titans.
7:30
Think of it like looking through a straw.
7:32
Your perspective is very narrow, and it narrows more under this environment.
7:38
It's a horsey example, like the blinkers that they have around the horse's eyes, think
7:42
in the US they call them blinders, but us Aussies call them blinkers.
7:47
And these are used so the horse is focused, and it's not distracted by its peripheral
7:52
It only sees what it can see right in front of it.
7:56
But if fear arises and you remain aware, if you feel the activation still move, then it
8:02
becomes a different cause.
8:04
The effect is expanded capacity.
8:09
The blinkers are taken off.
8:11
And so your nervous system learns that activation does not equal danger.
8:17
And this is how safety recalibrates.
8:20
Now let's return to the car analogy.
8:23
So when you decided yellow cars were important, you're filtered up dated that.
8:27
But imagine if every time you saw a yellow car, you told yourself, that's dangerous.
8:35
Your system would begin associating yellow with threat.
8:39
And that sounds a little bit crazy in that context, but this is what we do.
8:43
We do it with visibility, we do it with success, we do it with intimacy, we do it with money.
8:49
We tag something as desirable, and then when the nervous system activates, we misinterpret
8:54
that activation is a warning instead of growth.
8:58
And then we can go a little bit deeper, the law of vibration.
9:02
Every emotional state carries a frequency, like I mentioned in my last podcast, fear vibrates
9:08
differently than trust.
9:10
Resentment vibrates differently than acceptance.
9:13
And so your baseline starts to become what your system expects.
9:18
And if you constantly rehearse worst case scenarios, your nervous system calibrates
9:23
to hyper-vigilance, your RAS scans for threat.
9:27
And if you repeatedly pair fear with grounded action, if you speak well nervous, act while
9:34
you're uncertain or move while activated, you're baseline shifts.
9:38
And so the vibration stabilizes.
9:41
And then something very subtle happens.
9:44
And I feel to begin highlighting different evidence.
9:49
And so you notice opportunities where once you saw danger and you notice connection where
9:54
once you anticipate rejection, and it's not because reality changed overnight.
9:59
All of a sudden, new yellow cars weren't just put on the road, it's because your internal
10:06
And I feel it's important to say here, you cannot think your way out of this.
10:12
You cannot affirm your way out of this.
10:15
You retrain your filter through embodied experience, through repetition, through regular exposure
10:23
to what once felt unsafe.
10:27
And this is not about eliminating fear.
10:29
There is no level where fear disappears.
10:33
Even at the highest levels of growth, fear is present.
10:37
It just sounds different.
10:39
It looks different.
10:40
It shows up differently.
10:43
So instead of asking, how do I get rid of this fear?
10:47
You ask, is this protecting me from harm?
10:51
Real harm, like an elephant chasing me down, or is it protecting me from growth?
10:56
And that question interrupts the automatic causation.
11:01
We move from the automatic timeline to the conscious timeline.
11:05
It brings awareness into the loop.
11:07
The rasp keeps running, the mind keeps generating thoughts, the body keeps responding to what
11:14
But you are no longer unconsciously ruled by them.
11:18
You are participating consciously from the present, the conscious timeline.
11:24
The external world will continue unfolding according to cause and effect beyond your
11:29
Market shift, people change, circumstances evolve, that does not stop.
11:35
Not internally something stabilizes.
11:39
You stop trying to become fearless.
11:41
You become self trusting.
11:44
And you stop asking, when will I feel ready?
11:47
You start asking, can I move with this activation without even abandoning myself?
11:53
And that is growth.
11:54
It's not the absence of fear, capacity in its presence.
12:01
And when your capacity expands, your filter expands, the straw expands.
12:08
And when your filter expands, your perceived world expands.
12:12
And that is where power lies, not in controlling reality, but in understanding the mechanism
12:19
through which you experience it.
12:23
So this episode is devoted to the great mayor of horse racing, my kaivi diva.
12:29
She was an absolute champion of champions.
12:34
So thank you, beautiful souls.
12:35
I truly hope you received what was meant for you in this episode.
12:39
Until next time, be kind to yourself and be well.
