3 Stars of the Game: Wild vs Avalanche

0:00I have to get the shoot out win against the Minnesota Wilds or who are our three stars of the game. Let's get to that on a special episode of Lockdown Avalanche coming at you. Welcome to the special segment of Lockdown Avalanche. I am your host, Chris Maselli, joining me as always, Mr. Zach Pearson. This is where we go through the game and pick our three stars of the game. And this one, of course, is the Avalanche thrilling shoot out win, three to two win over the Minnesota Wild. So that's two wins in a row in shoot out fashion, both against division rivals. So I mean, hey, you're just, you extend your lead one point over those two teams. It's better than losing one point against both those teams.

1:03So exactly what you want, if you're not exactly, I shouldn't say that, not exactly what you want to be a regulation win, seven to nothing, and we don't have to worry about anything. That's exactly what you want to say. But hey, wins a win no matter what fashion. So yeah, this is where we just do a nice little segment on picking our three stars of the game. We go over who the actual three stars of the game, then who they were, and then we pick our three stars of the game, which don't always line up with the real three stars because we do things differently here. We're not just going to go by what people tell us to do over at Lockdown Avalanche. So we have our own method on doing things. We carve our own path. That's exactly right. So and our subtext people do the same thing. So we hear from them as well. All right. So your three stars of the game, the official three stars of the game. In this one, we're Nathan McKinnon was your third star. Jesper Walstead was your second star. And Scott Wedgewood was your first star.

2:05Any issues with with those three? No, it's really hard to argue those three. Wedgewood was awesome. Walstead, as we said on the regular episode, we gave him his credit. He was really good. That's the one pump up. He gets. And then McKinnon obviously with the shootout winner and a goal in the game as well. So those make sense. Those are three. All right. Good. Three stars. Yeah. I mean, Walstead had a 944 save percentage and Wedgewood had a 941 save percentage. So, which is not as good, but somehow better because he gets a win. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's a three 1,000th of a percentage is a difference there. So that's like a quarter of a save more that he had and you'd be good. Anyway, we're going to dive into our three and you're going to see a theme for our three stars of the game. And we're going to start it off. If you're watching over on YouTube, there's number three star of the game, Brett Koolak

3:07is number three new guy to the team. We want to assist the loan assists for Brett Koolak, but the only defenseman who had a point for the college of avalanche in this game, no Kalmokar, no Devon Taves, no Manson Mullenski or Burns, Brett Koolak, calm, cool, collected Koolak. Well, as we talked about, yeah, we don't call his name. We're not talking about him a ton since he's come over. He's just been exactly what you want him to be. He's not doing anything crazy flashy, which I don't have a problem with a third pairing defenseman not being an overly flashy guy, but to get an assist here and not only get an assist, but on a really good shot. And it's the game tying assist after you go down two to one, yeah, you're feeling pretty good about Koolak there. So I thought his game was great once again, love having him as a third star.

4:09Yeah, like we said, just he's the guy that just does his job and we always say with Devon Taves, like, oh, you don't have to worry while he's out there. It's like Koolak is like a version of that 2.0. So to have two guys out there that you can kind of just feel comfortable when they're out there that they're they're not going to get beat. They're going to be good positionally. And if he throws in an assist every once in a while, bonus, it's all bonus. So good for you, Koolak, third star of the game, second star of the game, like I said, you're going to see a theme here. And after you see this one, you're probably going to guess number one. Nicholas Wa is your second star of the game. Another new guy gets on the score sheet. You get a goal. The assist from Koolak was from the goal from Nick Wa. So you feel good for him getting his first goal with the club. And like you said, talking about the Koolak assist, you know, the goal was important

5:15and it came off of a nice Nick Wa to redirect. So good for him. Absolutely. I love that his shooting percentage for the game is 33.3%. Keep that up. If you score every three, I'm going to love it. Obviously, that's not a sustainable thing. Well, who else is number 33, by the way, Patrick Wa. You got a wall connection. So you got a 33% but his individual course, he four was four. And individual scoring chances was three. So he did some work. I mean, I think he had a really solid game. He was doing, again, same kind of thing. He's out there doing his job, doing what he needs to be doing. And he gets rewarded by being on the score sheet. And you always love seeing new guys get onto the score sheet. Especially first game in front of the home crowd. Send him come over.

6:16Love to see it. Absolutely. So there's your first two-star, well, third star and second star. So let's get a break in here. And we come back. It was a big assist, nonetheless. It was, it went to Nathan McKinnon. And that is Nazum Kadri. So as you can see, our three stars of this game

8:19are all the three newbies. They all got on the board and went into a shootout. So you know, every point was needed and meaningful. We're going on Kadri, number one star, huge assist, nice little back end pass to Nate, who roofs it. So it was a pretty play. I think Kadri could have had zero points, been a plus minus of zero. And as long as he has one, he was probably going to be our number one star. Probably pretty simple. Because he just, it was such an injection into that building. The crowd was so into it. And you know, the guys feed off of the crowd energy, for sure. The crowd needs the team to do well in order to be loud. I'm not going to say like it's all on the crowd to energize them. But my goodness, it does help. And Kadri got that crowd pumped, which in turn, I think just went right back into the team. So yeah, I agree. He could have had zero points. He could have had zero shots on that.

9:20He could have had not a whole lot of anything stat wise going on. And I'd still probably want him as number one. And instead, he gets himself a pretty, pretty assist. Yeah, I mean, like you said, everything he did, number one star. But man, if he could have got a goal and over time, or he did shoot out goal. If he could have ended the game, what's that? We'd be rebuilding the arena. Yeah, shoot out goal. If he could have ended the game off of his stick, my god, just would have been just an epic moment in avalanche history. But nonetheless, a big assist. Everyone's a glad he's back. And he's your number one star. So there you go. All right, are people over on subtext? They got a few three stars. Let's see, Adam, he's got wall step at three. And I like when our people do this stuff. Yeah, doesn't always have to be abs.

10:20I appreciate Adam for throwing Yesper in there at number three. But he does say in his comment, he says, I kind of do wish he got traded at the trade deadline. Us two. Because we're going to have to deal with him for a while. He's got wedged wood at number two. And he's got cadre at number one as well. So perfect. It's just lovely, it's so funny. We always say like our subtext people know us. He said, love the pass play to set up Nate. The roof would have exploded if he scored in the shootout. Fives are back. So it's like, yeah, it would have. Not the judge, it's not the judge in the Palo Tano. Number three, Nick Wah. Number two, Nathan McKinnon says for that finishing touch, even on Hartman and overtime. Love it. And number one, Nazum Kadri. So I think I think all our subtext crew is happy that.

11:24Kadri is back. Max is back. Yeah. Let me see if we got a few more in here. Max says, Matt's got cadre at three. If you mean back in burgundy and blue, it just feels right. Number two, he's got, well, he put cadre on there twice then. Because for his number two star is what we did. He put all three guys at number two, the new guys. School act. Nice. Juan Kadri. And at number one, he put Scott Wedgwood. Fast. I'm going to be OK with that, too. So yeah. Let's see if we got any another one here. I don't know. No, I think that might be, is Adam put anything in here? Nope, he didn't. So that's it. That's all the, everyone's happy. Kadri's back. So everyone's thrilled. Keep that momentum going.
