Oh yeah baby, it is the pre-game show Texas versus Ohio State. The match that we've been waiting for all off season. I'm Tex Homer joined by courts, sandmills and the land of show. We're going to talk about the keys to win the game for Texas, what we need to do, what we need to look out for. First, I want you to have an inside Texas right now, special offer, $1 for one week and then you'll get 50% off your first year. And also big thanks to Academy Sports and Outdoors for holding it down. All right fellas, we are going to start with the offensive keys. We'll move through these and then of course you tell me, hey I agree with that, I don't agree with that. Hey I think we forgot this point, all of that, but we will talk through this game, what we want to see and what we do not want to see here. So first things first I have, Manning is mentally sharp in reference to last year's meltdown, kind of unexplainable, some of the stuff we saw from him last year. We think there's a huge change there, but it would not be great to see some crazy inaccurate throws early on,

because then those doubts start to creep in. I don't think it's going to be a factor, but still big, big game fellas. So what do you think, Accord? Yeah, I think you know that right there. I want to see a comfortable arch as well as a mentally sharp arch, trusting his progressions, making his quick progressions, but not flying through it the way he did last year. You know, that's what we talked about, a little bit sped up. So just want to see arch nice, calm, comfortable, making the easy throws, look indeed easy. That's going to be a huge thing today. And if he does so, I trust Sarkin the scheme. Obviously, as always, to pick up some easy yardage, even against a good defense cycle, Ohio State is going to throw out the under map at Trisha. Absolutely. Linda, you worried about that at all? Not really, Manning. It's interesting to consider, and it must be considered actually for both quarterbacks, really. Like I think Julian San only threw for 120 passing yards in total last year as well. So it's just a couple kids that have grown up significantly. And Texas fans aren't, you know, it's familiar to us. Even in some of the games that a lot of the, let's just say the non-nerge or the people that don't pay close attention to

the program or the stat sheep watcher types, like they would see the Florida game and not be able to recognize some of the NFL caliber things that arch was willing to do. And some of the things that he was able to overcome. But for me, Manning, just seeing the way that he was buttoned up, but the fit, I don't know if anybody stole that walking off the bus and into the atmosphere today was, it just looks like he's ready for his break, like official coming out party where he's like, okay, I've arrived on a national scale and can consent and beat finally for one of the true, the big dogs, if you will. Right. I think Steve Starkieson still owe in five against Ryan Day and Kirby Smart Coach team. So today would be a nice way to eradicate that deficiency. Yeah, absolutely. You just don't want to deal with any of that. You don't want any of the question to be like, did he get his head? I don't think it'll happen, but it's a narrative that I would like a nice bow on and to be able to check and move on from. The second biggest thing is to stay on schedule. What do I mean by that? You need to have success rate. So you need to be getting five yards on first down.

You need to be getting 75% of remaining yards on third, are on second, and then on third, you need 100% of the remaining yards. That's the actual way we can quantify a success rate. And all that means is you're staying out of third and longs. Texas, even with a good performance last week, was still in a lot of third and longs. They converted them at an elite rate. But against really, really good teams, let's not play that game. Let's try to stay ahead of the sticks. Let's keep our playbook completely open. Let's keep Ohio State and Patricia guessing on what could be coming. I really, it's great that we can get out of those third and longs pretty often. But let's not do that at all, Gordon. I mean, that's the big thing, right? You know, there's probably a good chance. Texas is going to have a negative player too with a line of scrimmage in the run game in this game. But you really got to just win on first and second downs. And then also you've got to execute when you get, put yourself in third and favorable, favorable positions. I the feeling that if Texas average is another third and eight down in distance, like they did a week ago against Texas State,

you probably see a conversion rate go down just a little bit. You know, with just a respect to Texas State. But you want to see that maybe third and five. I would take third and five in this game. Put us in good opportunities again. You got to, can't beat yourself first and second down. You can't shoot yourself in the foot. The appendolities are really having plays blown up. So got to win first and second downs. There's always another super coach speak. But yeah, if you do that, I really think you start to see what we're talking about or landows talking about. What we've been saying over at Inside Texas, you know, this, this really could be the true coming out party for an archmaning. But you got to help the guy out, right? We're going to have to help him out in the run game. Got to help him out with discipline. All of a sudden, I think if you're repetitively putting yourself in those fights, man, this is a team that has all the weapons in the world to be really advantageous against Ohio State. Because I mean, again, if you could show anything on the interior early in this game, I mean, I feel like every single Texas fan in attendance, us at Inside Texas, our confidence is going to grow in spades. Obviously, what we think about the rest of this game. Because we know Texas is in it the outside. We know there's explosion there. We know that the tide ends is approved on their exterior blocking.

Obviously, we know Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, etc., and it mostly, it goes deep. You might see more than that out there, of course. But yeah, give us the opportunity to decide on third down runner pass. You know what I mean? And make it to where Ohio State is not, you know, it's past. We can pin our ears back or we can get really creative on the back end. Yeah. Land all give you the stats for last week. So Texas is on offense. We were 103rd in the country in standard down rate, meaning that we were longer than third and five. All the time. So our third down conversion rate was second in the country. So if you're going to be in bad situations, that's a good, but you're not going to be second in the country, versus Ohio State here. Not, yeah, not in those situations. And so there's a new term that I'm starting to try to push a little bit on the NFL side of things, but also in the college football landscape. It's two gap vision from running backs and so like what I'm, where I'm going with that,

I want to just try to set the table for a second with Texas's specific situation. Right? It's been no secret that they've struggled to push big dogs around and in these types of matchups, right? And for us to just feel confident with the, with the straight up, okay, running game without archmaning, being an extra hat in that game, in that running game or and or quick perimeter passing plays to your play makers to, to sort of operate as an extension of the run game. And so for me, like the two gap vision, what I'm saying is some of the cut ability from Smothers, Brown and Company, I wonder how much of, how much of their vision and their ability to get to a gap or a gap and a half over very quickly, very suddenly and still get north in South, immediately after that without really having to throttle down and change direction. I wonder, like, is that enough to offset some of our concerns as, as just viewers or spectators of the way that this team has been unable to really

enforce and assert themselves physically and just gotta have it moments or even if it's just, like you said, standard down rate staying on track. Like, can Texas get three and a half to four and a half yards every time they run the football without having archmaning to do some of the, the heavy lifting in that regard? So, to get vision is something that I'm gonna be paying close attention to, is that enough to offset some of the deficiencies that we've seen in years past against opponents like Ohio State? Yeah, and so like last year, I think we had, we're at like 4.4 yards per carry and Paul did a good job coming out of that game in our film study, being like our run game sucks and everybody's like, what are you talking about? We went 4x4, 4.4, but the reality was, Patricia was letting us do that between the 20s. How they designed their defense, they wanted to stop the pass. And then as soon as we would get into the red zone, they would go, now it's time to stop the run and they would shut it down completely. Yeah. And then in previous games against good teams, we've had things where it's like we're averaging 2.1, right? Right. So, you don't want to see where you can't run at all,

but we do need the context of, I want a functioning run game. At first, I was kind of like, oh, good run game. This is a good opponent. I don't, most people don't have elite run games in these situations. Texas certainly doesn't have it often really ever. So, I just wanted to work at a base level. I don't need a ton of flash with it, but it can't be 2.1 and it has to be in the red zone. So, you need to be able to get those dirty yards, but you're also going to need to pair it with some explosives. That's going to matter. Not one, not even really two. If you can get three or four of those, right, our Relics able to hack, how should, that's what I'm talking about with the run game. I don't need something super special. It just cannot be where we're functionally always in third down because we can't run. That can't happen either. So, that's a big thing for the run game with me. Kind of piggybacking off what Lando said, Corden. Yeah, and again, you're probably going to see a negative player too out of the run game in this, but I would, I mean, if we're trading those for two yard carriers, we've been three yard carriers on first down.

That's a big difference, right? All of a sudden, you're setting yourself up to put yourself in an advantageous spot on third down. And so, now I fully agree with you. That's going to be kind of, I have the number four. I think you get four explosives out of the run game. You're really, really going to aid obviously archmaning, start on the headsets on what they're trying to do. Life gets a lot more difficult, you know, if you're not able to run the ball, even two to three yards on first downs. If you're consistently putting yourself behind the chains against this defense, you're going to be in trouble with as unique and creative as Matt Patricia is. They're still loaded, obviously. Maybe they weren't all starters last year at Ohio State, but a lot of guys that said Texas fans, they don't know the names yet. We saw Caleb Downes, Nightmares, and Sunny Styles, etc. You've heard these names for so long now against Texas. Just find a way to find the explosives. I don't want to see all of the cuteness on third down is short. I want us to be able to line up, run the football, without having to go to too many wrinkles. And so, as far as a run game, that's just what I'm going to be paying attention to. It is Texas having to get way deep in their bag, just to pick up the third and three is the third and fourth,

things like that on the ground. So, excited to see what that looks like. Because, again, if you don't have those explosives plays out of the run game, if you're getting put in a box every single time you put hand the ball off of a stable of pretty good top two backs. I anticipate Ryleek is running a little bit more north and south this week. I'm sure there were some conversations you had in team meetings or in the run-in-back meetings about a little too much dancing. Get north and south, fall forward, drag guys, but you're going to have to have some explosive plays in that ground game if Texas is going to win. Well, the run game, this is going to sound weird, but I'll explain, the run game can't lead to SACs. What does that mean? Texas was 131st in the country last week at offensive stuff rate, meaning getting your run stopped at or behind the line. So, you're second and long. Third and long. Your run game can't produce the results of what SACs would produce. You can't have that. So, it's like, when I say functioning, I don't even mean four yards per carry. That'd be great. But it's just you cannot be getting hit five yards in the backfield.

And it can't solely be, here's an explosive, or we lose five yards. That can't happen either. So, it's like, that's the biggest thing. It's like, you at least, I think, a bare minimum. You need to clear the line of scrimmage. And that's something that we actually didn't do well last week. There's only five teams worse than us in college football at that last week. And Ohio State has the ability to do some of this. Now, their defensive stuff rate was 87th. So, even against ball state, they weren't like penetrating. But Texas State did. So, that's something we need to be aware of. The run game just can't be this thing that basically feels like a penalty or a SAC whenever we try to run the ball. It has to be an asset to the offense. Not something we have to overcome. That's how I feel about the run game right now. Also, you know, Hollywood show us something, man. Makes some plays. That would be exciting. My next point is take advantage of the improved wide receiver room. I was thinking here too. It's like, what I want, you know, I want to see 50 touchdowns from Cam and Wingo. For sure. But it's not purely just the players that we have.

Take advantage of what these players can do so it can alter the defense and help the team. The idea of Cam can be just as effective as Cam at times. But you need to make them feel it at least early. So, they actually do end up biting on that. What do you all think about that? Yeah, I'll lead there if you don't mind, Cord. I just kind of want to set the table one more time on it. It's like a, it's a, it's more of a psychological element. I've even just for the fans for right now. As we head into this matchup, like I don't, I don't know if enough people recognize. Like, because we just get so used to seeing Ohio State, Texas, Georgia, and other, you know, powerhouse programs putting 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 guys sometimes into the National Football League every year. And it's like, okay, rinse, repeat, reload, and then we're good. Four first round draft picks for Ohio State last year. Three of which on the defensive side of the ball. Two of which are widely considered anomalies as far as their IQ, their game break ability to look with their ability to be able to do multiple things.

And then the third of which is as sunny styles, who a lot of people after his combine performance thought was the actual best prospect of all three. Because, you know, there was the, the undersized, undersized safety and too slow to play corner element for Caleb Downs. And then you had Arville Reese, like, he's, he's really just a linebacker. But is he, is he nuanced enough with the hand fighting and the technique to play on the line of fresh image at the next level? So there was like a lot, listen, question marks with the, with the hybridization and the versatility of the aforementioned too. But those guys, man, Arville Reese Caleb Downs and sunny styles not being out there. And then what Texas has added to their specific sets of skill position, it's, it's a, to me, the playing field is a, it's, it's level significantly. It's a lot. It's a, there's a Texas closed the gap in a big way, but, but getting Cam Coleman added into the mix, the two running backs that we've already talked about. And then having three got, it's not just three first round draft picks. Like it's two of the three. We're almost certain are generational that are now no longer in the picture for Ohio State.

And so once again, man, like when you, it's not, it's not really celebrating lost causes anymore. And just kind of using, okay, thank God Caleb Downs is out of the picture. Now Texas can go win. It's just trying to get folks to understand how arch was thrust into a really difficult situation against the defending national champions last year on the road in a hostile environment in week one before he had a chance to settle in. But then also to understanding what really was presented on the opposite side of the football, that we didn't fully understand at that time, like at this time a year ago. So I just wanted to, to sort of, contextualize how drastically different the, or just how much closer I think the playing field is leveled, even though, even as excited as we were about the, the array of, of past catching weapon relashed year and, and stuff like that. But to have smothers and brown their ability to make something out of nothing is a level that we're not used to seeing in quite some time, right? It's just at least a year, at least a year. And then pairing that with the discrepancy of talent that's been negated on one side,

the, on one side line. And then incrementally added on the other to me, I think it just, it bodes well. And it seems to be arrow up as far as just what the offense looks like in a, in a much different way this year. It's even flipped a little bit, landing like we should have three, we could have three top 10 offensive picks. Yeah, exactly. You know? So it's like that thing too is like, well, let's look like that. That'll be a big fact. So not like Ohio State lit it up last year either, even with how much they got drafted. But still, it's like it, that's kind of the opposite now. It's like you've got the left tackle, the quarterback, you got Cam. Let's, let's take advantage of how that looks. What are you thinking, Cord? You can talk Cam, but also, um, Wingo here. How do you kind of maximize these guys? I, when you go ahead and awesome game one, I now, I really want to see it with Wingo. You know, it's like how you showed some stuff, show me versus these guys. And then I'll know that Wingo's taking that next step. Yeah, I mean, again, I think you use the full skill set on your top three guys as much as you can. I like it in those within

this game on third down to lot, but you got to move them around in the right way. You got a great, favorable matchups. But again, when you have Cam calling, you have a Ryan Wingo out there, you have to pay more attention to those guys when you do an in the mode to. I want Texas to be aggressive from the league that go in this game. I want over Ohio State to fill like, hey, Texas has indeed flipped that scale a little bit. It is a much level or more level point. The other might even favor Texas a little bit because there is so much talent at this, uh, on this offense. And again, they're going to pass the text well. I'm not opinion. I like the matchup of our offensive line. They're defensive line and past situations. Um, run situations, you know, again, it's a little bit of a different story, but they can bend to that play your strengths, right? So, I like being aggressive, letting arch kind of get into the game, obviously, early with his legs. But then you really use in this core of lighting studios to go at it. So again, I'd like to see them challenged down the field early in this game because I'm all about throwing the football to the top of our own the football, right? And I don't think even if things go the way we really want to,

the Texas is going to line up for four quarters and run the football over Ohio State, right? You really feel like that's our identity. It's not in our DNA right now. Ohio State, smaller guys, twitchy guys, everybody in that secondary can run turn their hips and move. Let's get on the field and get early and often I like 11 personnel to get more of these lighter receivers and, you know, on the playing field, obviously. So that's just me personally. You know, I'd like to switch to Texas, try to stretch them out a little bit early on and then really work, you know, we go mostly, etc. underneath. But again, I think in it's going to have a bigger game than a lot of people are getting a credit for could be wrong. Um, sorry, I just love the slots of times, but you got to do what you got to do here to pick up and extend, you know, drive. So I like him and mostly being a big part of this game. Ryan Wingo is just like you just said Connor, I don't even see it now, you know what I mean? Like, with all the respect to the windows, the Texas state, whole different world, whole different world with not Patricia, they're going to try to take Ryan Wingo a way in certain situations, right? You know, they're going to know that okay, they know we're giving Cam Coleman this look. We have a pretty good

inclination on where the balls likely to go. So that's where I like modes of stepping up and helping out and making some plays there. But I need to see if I'm right. We're going to really know what tightly. Clearly he's taking another step from last year this year. I think you'll know exactly how much after we see, you know, Texas and I from the night. Good stuff. All right, let's hear a quick word from Academy for keep going. During everyday spending into more fun, earn unlimited 2% of rewards when you spend outside Academy. My Academy rewards Mastercard the official card upon Alrighty. Mike sounded a little bit weird, so she's played with that. Try to get that. Sound a little thin out of nowhere. I don't know what that was. Me and Landon will chat while you figure it out. All right. And then a big thing. Landon finished drives in the red zone. This has been something that's, you know, plagued us with Sarkeesian's offense for years. But we saw it show up, especially in this game last year. Sarke gets a lot of opportunities like actually

quantified like he's crossing the 40 is like an actual quote unquote opportunity. He's always been good at that. We have not been good at finishing it. When we get in the red zone, we got a score. And normally I get mad. I'm like, I don't want to see all this play design and wrinkles to score in the red zone. Like the University of Texas should be able to line up. Again, this game I'm fine with some wrinkles, man. Do what you need to do, but score in the red zone. You have to finish landed. Yep. And that's the thing. There's like a, it's, there's some push and pull and give and take for me. Like I want so badly just to be able to say like, okay, we consider Texas the top five team. Obviously, we know that they're national title contenders because they've been knocking on the door for multiple seasons now. But at the same token, we go into these games year over year and these big time matchups and we're saying, man, not sure if Texas can really push people around today. If, if, if and when they have to do it and when the other defense knows that they're going to do it, can they? But that for me is where the Titans really get involved, especially in that area of the field where, you know, you condense the formation a little bit and you kind of require more of a loaded

box. But then you have the ability to use Arches legs. Get them on the move, change the platform for him to throw. But when guys have to deal with Spencer Shannon and Nick Townsend at a level at which they do, they have to gear up and really just pack a lunch and bring the lunchpale and the hard hat with them every single snap to deal with what they're bringing through the whistle in the run game every single play. And so that's the type of effort that you, of course, hope that you're going to see and I expect that we do all the way across the board. But when those kind of, when those guys can, can make the, you know, say the slot defender, the, the, the nickel backer, the nickel corner, whoever's playing in that situation there, gearing up to deal with 81 and any of any of the three Titans really that's meant the most the majority of the time on this field last, last week. Gearing up to deal with that. And that's when you see the ability to just sort of, okay, whoop, little, little, hezzy or a little, little jab step. And then you slip right out of it because they've just, they've, they've prepared themselves for a, for a heavyweight collision. And

now all of a sudden you see 81, 83, 85, just slip in and then he's just presenting himself to archmaning who's booting back the opposite direction against the flow of the play. And you can, you can, you can just see some explosive plays happening that way for Texas in the passing in who now genuinely has two tight ends that can threaten you both at the point of attack and after catching the football, even if it is on, you know, just check down type opportunities. But I'm, I'm interested to see if there's some more of that type of stuff, especially in the red zone, yeah, bring back the play from A&M, right? We're Nick Johnson. Just running as fast as you can. I forgot about that. You can, you can do the cute stuff versus the Ohio State. I do not want to see it versus Texas State, which we did, which is good. So let me see where we ended up last week. So we were 30 second in the country in red zone. But once again, everyone has like four or five attempts. It's really earlier in the season. But it's better than being the numbers, numbers get really heavily skewed this early. Oh, this early for sure. Yeah. But then we didn't have a problem with that last week, which is good. So I hope that we continue on that trend. Cor, what are you thinking?

Let's, let's, we can check the mic too. Test test. It works. Yeah. Much like my mic. I'm hoping that we did improve the effort out of Texas and the ribs on again. They're better last year than the previous couple of years on the start. I just love the different ways that they can attack you on the road zone because again, like Lando just pointed out, you know, you got multiple tight ends that you can throw wrinkles in and you can run on the scene, you can run on the flags. There's different ways there, but Cam Coleman's 5050 ball potential in the red zone. I think there's a something this offense haven't really had since circle got tight. So it's maybe with that and I miss a little bit, but not in the same level with the Cam Coleman in my opinion. So yeah, Archers' legs, whoever had that comment right there, I think you know that that's what I want to see. Archmaning's legs and being used, not, not overusing them, but definitely going to have to be a part of that red zone attack. And again, maybe, um, maybe you have a wrinkle. I don't know, Connor, I'm not with you. I don't want to see the cute stuff too often because I feel like it's an indicator. Again, if we're running the football and that helps us roll in a cute little wrinkle, that's one thing,

but I don't want to have to resort to just having to do the cute stuff. I think Connor bounced on for just a second. Hopefully, don't drop soon. Yeah, that's, oh, that's no big deal. And I think this may be a good opportunity right now while he's booting back in. We can, we can address trade. You're good. It's just I clicked the side of my mic that does like refresh page. So I just press okay. You got all the bells and whistles. That's still it's either way. I think it's a good point though, Homer. And you can, you can confirm or deny it. I don't want to speak for you, but he says from Dre from VA. I'm guessing Virginia. What stat are you looking looking at to see if Texas has control or is controlling the game? And I just said, don't want to speak for Homer, but I imagine he'd say rush down success rate. Sort of what we kind of led the offensive, uh, what we want to see discussion with. It's just essentially staying on schedule and ahead of the chains, if you will. Yeah. Alrighty. Yeah, I don't, I've done that twice now in the past week and I've never done it. But somehow I need to just unmap that button because it'll kick me straight out of there. What's that? Um, success rate, man, it doesn't run game. It run game. It really just in general,

man. I mean, here's success rate guy. I believe in efficiency because I believe that it shows the your coordinator is understanding the opposing defense and it's showing that your offense is prepared and knows what they're seeing. Explosive, explosive is a great man, but I want to see that down to down, you're making the right decision. Sark doesn't tend to do that. He tends to kind of first and second down or kind of waste. Yeah. He does something big on third down. Like, let's use the whole thing. That's been an issue with Sark's offense. Uh, since he's always, he's more so hunting the big, the big explosive than he is like known for being just sort of consistent down and down. Did you want to, did you want to reiterate one more time the like what percentage to look for? So like, what is considered a successful first and 10 rushing down? It's like getting 40% on first down. It's getting 60%. So the actual metric is first down. You need to get half of whatever it is to the next first down. Normally that's 50% for so five yards. Okay. So you need five yards on first down. And then on second down, you need two thirds of remaining yards. And then on third

down, you need 100% right. And so it's an actual number. So when I say, say success rate, it doesn't mean like you just move forward a yard. We quantify that. So we know exactly and standardize it. So we know what's going on. So that means you need to have success on first down. And the reality is if you're a team that's always in third and eight, it means you're not an effective team on first and second down because it compounds. So if you hear someone say, you know, they're always in third and long, well, it just means the offense is not very good on first and second. That's what that means. So let's not waste first and second downs. And pack who we do shows with a brilliant guy. I was like, why does that happen with the sarcophance? He's like, look, how I look at it from the defensive side of the ball is that sarc is living in a world of eight play mini scripts 24 seven. There's all these micro scripts that are happening. And he's trying to get you into a situation and work you into a look that he can nail the explosive. Now the problem is you run into is like, what if your quarterback misses the explosive? Then you just wasted like two drives for no reason. And we've had that issue. We've hit the explosives this year. But also if you face a team that doesn't give them up like

their elite or they communicate at an elite level, then you're spending all this time setting up something that's not even going to happen. And that's why you see these three inouts and these like big long droughts with Sarc's offense in the past. So big thing to me always is going to be success rate 100%. All right. I want to limit self-inflicted wins. Texas ended up fourth in the country in penalties last week, which is amazing. We were 130 of something in previous games. So if we can solve that penalty thing, man, that's the difference in one, maybe two more wins. Do not, Ohio State's going to be a good team. We cannot allow the penalties to start tacking on land. And as he types viciously for the chair, sorry if you could hear that. I was getting after with with Jerry to kind of reiterate some thoughts there. So he's saying, what if the opposing defense accordion, it doesn't allow you to walk them down to their death like that. So then if that's the case, then if they're crowding the box because you are having success down and down out, then all of a sudden you're you have more opportunities to hit the home run ball over their head. You just

throw it, you just it's a fast death versus a slow death with a more explosive array of past catching talent that that is includes, but isn't limited to. Camp Coleman, Ryan Wingo, Jamaite Bishop now. And of course, and it mostly still in the picture, very much needs to be needs to be mentioned as court court did. So it's still just a minute to go. But yeah, man, just I mean, the true sign of a good team is to not make silly mistakes. Like it's fashion in the red zone. That's one of the fastest ways regardless of what you're equipped to do with your personnel and your efficiency and your and your scheme. If you're first in 10 from the 12, you know, let's say you're first in goal, goal to go from the nine yard line. All the sudden, now you you have a fall start penalty on first down. Then then you're just you're you're you're swimming upstream the rest of the way and it's much more difficult. So yeah, it's just in in atmosphere like this one, you usually don't tend to see those types of things happen. That's the

beauty of home field advantage. And so I'm just hoping as all as any Texas fan would be any observer would just, you know, eliminate the mistakes that you yourself can control stay stay within the moment and don't don't get behind the chains unnecessarily. So yeah, I mean, it's rather self-explanatory to me. So this my actual glossary that I keep with like all my breakdowns. So just see I can see it and measure play efficiency gains equal to our 50% on first down 70% on second 100. So that's how I actually calculate it. Yeah. Okay. So I think the difference was is you're talking about just total success rate pass and run where we're talking about rushing success rate. I think that's where the 40 percent number came from. But either way, that's that's that's what you that's it right there. Yeah, that's how you calculate it. So that's a lot of times I can not explain it enough. So success rate can feel like as long as they move the ball forward an inch that's success. It's not. And so that's what you need to kind of pay attention to. But really, success rate is just a proxy for are you in

horrible situations all the time? That's all it means. A good success rate team is in good situations and they can take advantage of that. That's just manageable downs and distances. Beautiful. 100%. You just don't want to be playing that game with teams of this caliber. You can play it versus Texas state clearly. Yeah, all right. Let's see what's going on here. Court, how you doing? Let's mic check you. Let's test it out. I hope it sounded a little bit better. Now still still mechanical and light. I don't know what's going on there. It was working earlier in the show and then just all the sudden switched. Could you just go look at it and just go microphone? Yeah, you have a immediate restarting it. But do you have a computer mic? Without a normal mic? Just your normal computer mic? I can try it. Let's try that. I'll mess with it all. Yeah. All right. So no stubborn play calls landing. Yeah. And that can mean certain things, right? Like you're not hunting like fade balls to cam Coleman 90 plays because you're behind the sticks. But also being just a

big person, L man. Like if 12 is not working and we're seeing some of success with 11, this will be solvers miss to be state, right? When they finally like went to 11 and then they lit it up, that's what I mean by not getting stubborn, being willing to come up and it's hard to for sark because he spent all off season on this game plan. And so there's a part of it that you want to stick to it. And coaches can also fall into the trap of well, part of my design was to keep doing this so it would break them in the fourth quarter. But you don't know that till the fourth quarter. That's tough, too. So it's like and then what if they don't if you're pigeonholing yourself into right ditch? Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's creating unnecessary drama. Yeah, so it's like, that's what I mean. And if they're giving up short passes, let's take short passes. I know sark's going to have a lot of cool stuff for this game. I know they've been repping a lot of cool stuff for this game. I hope it works. If it doesn't, and Ohio State comes out with a game plan, they didn't see coming. How quickly can we divorce from what we thought this game was going to be into playing that game? Because we've seen that too with sark's off and sometimes

he'll oddly kind of run when you're it's clear that it's not happening or he'll go away from the run, when it is working, there's just kind of these moments of like disconnect that you can tell that he has this grander vision than maybe he's trying to stick to that's not always a reality on the field. Against these really good teams, you have to adapt. That's what I want to see when I say like no stuff in play calls. Yep. Would you would you call it? I don't really have anything necessarily to add there to that bullet point. This is just more of a of a today specific question. Would you would you at all surprised if you did see Texas sort of try to live in this 12 personnel world just to allow the heat and the the overall wear and tear just that just the conditioning and the just fatigue to set in over the course of a four quarter affair like in theory if that if that is an advantage that you're expecting to possess as a Texas long-horns football program in a 100 degree

heat with a 160 160 degree field conditions or just you know down there inside all the chaos. To me that makes sense like that's one way to sort of give yourself an advantage in the fatigue department if you're trying to slow the game down a little bit not not slow it down in a sense of being less physical but slowing the game down meaning okay let's just make Ohio State pack a lunch every single time you know more often than not in the first half I'm wondering if there's a little bit more of that involved or I know it's not necessarily planned a Texas' strength or at least the strength that we know it might I mean 12 look you're in 12 actually yeah 12 actually looked all right last week I got 12's my favorite personnel if you're good at it yes sir why why I was annoying last year is because our tight-insk and blocks so it was worthless so it's like look if you're good at it I love 12 personnel it's my favorite and we look good blocking I'm fine with playing it I just want Spencer Shannon and Nick Townsend on the field wearing opposing backers and edges out

as what as often as I can have those dudes out there yeah that's just advantage Texas to me yeah and it's and I'm okay with that it's just you run that risk right because if you're running a game plan that you think will work in the fourth and then it doesn't then you just wasted three and a half quarters so it's like something else needs to happen I feel much better about that versus a lesser opponent yeah and then I need to see the how many players are from wherever there's a really cool website there's eight of them eight eight players from the state of Texas on Ohio States roster is that so I was gonna say you have to see how many of them are actually from the north with that strategy now just because you're from the south and you but if you haven't lived in the south for like three years you're still going to be deconditions like we have to get used to the heat every summer right yep it's it's a process but on some of that too where it's just like they're not used to that up there in Columbus like well they have a lot of players from their national team like a lot of them are used to that yeah but I think you could try to wear on it but it's I don't know

man that's not my strategy versus Ohio State that's my strategy versus the middle tier it's fresh on my mind and I agree with you it's fresh on my mind though because I'm sitting there watching Drew Mestemaker and company they lose to Tulsa last week and then they go give organ fits where there's a 30 degree temperature discrepancy from Eugene organ to Stillwater Oklahoma so I'm just in my head these these are young college kids that are susceptible to being a prisoner of the moment and if you're not used to circumstances like that with extreme heat that's drastically different from what you've been practicing and preparing and then you know maybe it's just maybe that advantage is as advertised as far as the nationals you know the national media that loves to talk about the heat being a factor and so I'm just trying to definitely I mean 160 160 degrees matters oh yeah it matter it matters it's just it can't be my like it can't be my core pillar of like it's 160 degrees therefore I will go 12 personnel and run a lot it's like you know it's like it can't be the the whole thing that holds it together now if you want to run a lot and be 12 for another

reason I'm good with that but the heat thing and the and the heat thing works both ways I mean like work condition but like 160 degrees is 160 degrees even for even for Texans like that is that is hot that's a big factor chord how you sound man let's see what we got drum roll sounding a little bit better yeah you sound better let's go yeah there we go baby sorry guys tech real tech wizard back in the south yeah he's out there uh score what are you thinking so I don't know if you heard it but linda was like I said hey hey I don't want stubborn play calling a k a like you know my things to grind them down so we can win in the fourth quarter because if it doesn't work then you just wasted like three and a half quarters on a strategy that doesn't work so adapting what are you kind of thinking there I don't want to see 12 personnel if we can't block I want to see 11 so what do you think they are on a game adaptability quickly yeah I mean that's the thing right you got to have the the wherewithal to say hey this is not going to be an option today you know and that

was something that we early in the season last year it was really really kind of stubborn about really wanting to pound the football doing it from 12 personnel we just didn't have the tight ends we were ready to do that clearly didn't have the offensive line either so hey take your crack at it because again in an optimal world right you're able to just line up in 12 personnel you're able to turn out four or five yards of play and then take your play action shots everybody wins there right if you're a burn or decide if it's not there Connor you know where out my mind's that I love the 11 personnel I think Texas has got I think arch is very very comfortable in the quick game is what you saw the lap back end of the last year and so yeah just can't be stubborn man and again you know if we are going to make personal decisions if it's your main bishop or Ryan Nibblet comes onto the field for one snap I would like it not to be a directly and very obvious play that is going to bishop or wing you know or bishop or Nibblet in that regard so somewhat used them as decoys if you can but at the same time run your own man so again I know that he's going to get those couple of guys out there but just can't be stubborn man of 12 is not there it needs it feels like it's arch is

moment anyways right let's open that thing up and let him sling it around right because that's how Texas is going to hit the ceiling of this offense in this game in my opinion I don't think 12 is going to light the house on fire or anything like that but I would love it if it's just service service if you're able to pick up even three and four yards on early downs via the 12 personnel curious to see if you see any 13 personnel or anything like that down inside the red zone you know what it means all a little bit of that last week some two back we heard in the obseason they were working two back and I would expect to maybe see that too so we might see some different personnel sets that's something you could be on the lookout for for sure it's yeah and if you notice AJ Mill we went up to the box and missed to be state and the offense started feeling and looking a little different after that they were down on the field and I don't like coordinators on the field and that's what Sark was doing coach you are you are whenever you were coaching you were an offensive coordinator you can't see as good court like you think you can see but you can't actually

see this it like it's different being in the box that bird and I was stubborn I tried to stay on the field for as long as possible and the exact split second I got in the booth I'm like this is a whole different world hold over vantage point you know see how everybody is moving on that particular day because again like Lando said these are kids you know what I mean there's going to be days where there's a little bit more juicer a little bit less maybe somebody's just being at you know a half second lazy or a half second slower than other days so yeah I'm big on that I love offense look different whenever I'm out of the box and so Bermonte stays with Arch Sark stays on the field but AJ is really able to translate what he's seeing and I think that helped the offense so that's a big big factor I want to see we're about to go to break but first longhorn football I did it's like you're landed and go so this is a normal show my bad for not knowing text by double digits the pregame show is a normal show in season we deal with the album before the game we have different guests rotating me and court always be here but Lando this week but sometimes it's different just being on people's schedule but we will always absolutely have a pregame show for you guys post game too I know that nervousness dude before a big game it's like

what we want to see first things first make saying work through pressure or disguise saying has insane accuracy it's a superpower what that guy has it's really impressive and it's at all levels he's number one short intermediate and deep so it's not like he has a weakness here if you let him sit there comfortably and just read the play he will win the game he's awesome there the difference is he doesn't like to move off his spot and make the play he doesn't like when his receiver is not clearly where the receiver is supposed to be these are big factors for me uh I think saying and of course you know you're not facing Julian saying who you faced week one last year so he's gonna be more unlocked yet a lot of growth but that Miami game it shows you I made sure to go watch the l22 after I said I would have the Miami game getting him off the spot matters ball state would get him off the spot and it in it affected him so that's the biggest thing was saying matter respect to saying you cannot let him just sit back there that's that's key number one for me fellas yeah you got to muddy the reads right they can think that he's seeing something with his eyes and then

it's a play unfolds you know it's something else take him off his first reads if you don't move him off the spots and you don't get him off his first reads he's gonna light you up you know what I mean and again we know that and it's another point that we'll get into that there's gonna be a lot of attention on Jeremiah Smith right so he's gonna have someone on one match up elsewhere Texas is gonna play a lot of man in this which makes it even more important that you do move him off his spots right you throw him the you haven't thrown a you know a guy that has one step and he's able to lead him and get the ball in the run they're gonna create some explosive plays in the passing game gotta move him off again much different quarterback and the Indiana reps and Miami reps when he he does get moved off his spot but at the same time like it says there with the disguise you're not just gonna be able to line up send guys out of him every single time ball is gonna come out to beatable spots so yeah you got to make sure that you're messing with this head every bit as much as you're getting pressure on him absolutely that's a big factor and it's there's a significant drop off let me try to find this real quick through my one billion stats that I keep while you're doing

that it's interesting to note for me as well just the the perspective that the world rightfully has on Jeremiah Smith he's got seven catches for 46 yards and two games against Texas in the last two seasons yeah and they and here's my thing we'll get into the second point we lost both yeah right exactly there there's a little bit of this like obsession with Jeremiah Smith oh my point was saying their standard down success rate is 11th in the country their passing down is 54 so there's this it's still good but there's a significant drop off there when you put saying in those uncomfortable spots he becomes freakishly dangerous to all right we can handle this so that's a big thing but Jeremiah Smith isn't the entire offense like Jeremiah Smith had a good game versus Miami there's some of this where you become so obsessed with Jeremiah Smith that he mustn't have a play that they can beat you in all these other ways right and it's like McEwan's a good player man he's running like a 10 to something like you also think Ohio State doesn't understand you're

going to take Jeremiah Smith like they haven't game planned all off season for okay they're obviously going to do this here are other ways absolutely do not let Jeremiah Smith run ramp it like he's incredible but I get a little tired with the Jeremiah Smith Jeremiah Smith thing because we shut down Jeremiah Smith and Ohio State beat us twice so try to figure out some things more that has more of a symptom of the offense and the entire Ohio State is not that we're not playing the Jeremiah Smiths they have other players McEwan can do something in this game don't let those backs get their people familiar with Chris Henry as well that's a guy I mean yeah they were trying to get him up to speed last week but that's the big I think you can forsake yourself becoming so obsessed with Jeremiah Smith that you play into their hand and what I liked about Miami and I was watching like a hawk Miami would man him up they just mixed it up that's what you have to do it so it's like you can leave them on islands sometimes and sometimes you'll get burned but mix the coverages

you I constantly hear like you can't play man you can't play man I'll show you all 22 right now playing man on Jeremiah Smith you first read you know so it's like you need to constantly for saying you need to switch this up but I think you can hurt yourself obsessing and building an entire game plan around one really special player what do you all think about that clearly I feel strongly about this topic yeah I agree with you Cordy you have anything anything you wanted to add on that or well not just real quick I was I said the same thing Connor on Thursday not show with Evan and Nash and Tyler like I would at times run some man coverage because you have an idea you again this is part of the disguise right if they know what you're doing with Jeremiah Smith every time then they know where a lot of the other matchups are gonna be or they're they're have a really strong inclination on where they're gonna be so I think you part as part of you who most champ is and as aggressive as he is then when he has a clear read on what Ohio State is gonna want to do what they're saying is gonna want to do after you show and present this look that you can before to play him man off at

times just like you said the Miami game I am he played some man coverage Notre Dame played and they got torched in the end they maybe don't play man on third and whatever it was and as a changeup don't let them get a beat on it exactly right you got a mix and match it you know there's times where you need sand to look over at Jeremiah Smith expecting the Texas might bail off that and play some man and there needs to be two guys there or there needs to be protection over the top and there's times where he expects there to be a too deep or there expects there to be help over Jeremiah Smith where hey it is man coverage but he's not paying any attention to Jeremiah Smith you know I mean he thinks he has his match up there and then hopefully for Texas you know by then the past version's affected saying his spot has got him on the run a little bit or just in general moving around yeah every oh this is what we hear every Ohio State is playing you play man dude watch the Miami game I just watched the all 22 you switch it up he's you can play man sometimes and also if you watch what was fascinating about them with ball state is everything was going into they had this the second level everything had this intermediate level to it and then they had a

lot of sit down our quick breakoffs and all this stuff which is showing me that they have offensive design that is aware of that you might play nine safeties deep and not give that to them they're making sure they're often still functions so there's also this world where you can play it safe and keep safeties up top and then they're getting 15 yard sits all game and that's what they were doing with ball state so it's like guys just keeping a bunch of safeties over the top you can afford a play here and there with Jeremiah Smith he's a good player but don't forsake everything else that can happen with Ohio State's offense to obsess on Jeremiah Smith even if he scores a touchdown that's fine it's Jeremiah Smith but just you can't I think we get a little bit to obsess there and it can actually hurt you and I think McEunes can be able to do a lot of stuff if you become that obsessed with Jeremiah Smith yeah so change it up play man when they don't expect it whenever he's in a formation where it's like that's not going to Jeremiah Smith try it there sometimes you need to play man because you need to blitz like yes there's situations

here you know if you just want to sit back the whole time once again to Texas fans we lost those games that we shut Jeremiah Smith down in so we need to kind of be aware of that but that's a big thing that I've just all week it's been nagging me because all the pretty much all the analysis is just can't let Jeremiah Smith you know catch a pass it's weird yeah yeah now he's gonna make his share of plays he's gonna have he's obviously gonna have an impact and even if he's not impacting the stat sheet he's impacting the way Texas plays to a degree but like you said man they're gonna mix it up they're gonna give him different looks they're gonna they're gonna have different such sets of circumstances and situations in which they are getting up in his face and bump and run style to apply more pressure to move julien saying off of his spot but also too it's just worth mentioning you know it's actually has double the amount of starters on the defensive side of the ball returning in this game then Ohio State does from a year ago and then I like just thinking about hero canoe who is you know obviously there's there's it's like a it's

a bulletin board material type game for him to go on and once again have a have an impact and make his presence felt but Ian Ian your fart and and and justice Terry and and Lance Jackson Collins Simmons obviously those types of guys man it's a big it's a big moment for them to win and win quickly and then that's that's a great way to affect the accuracy from julien saying's platform within the pocket yeah julien saying has a super computer for a mind you don't understand the intelligence level of this kid it's like painting manning oh yeah we got him manning so yeah he's very smart like I'm not gonna I'm I like julien saying the super computer though can get sat because he doesn't move well so that's also a factor there so you need to be aware of that and the whole reason even if he's a super computer that's why you especially disguise and change looks because if you don't change looks he's smart as hell so you have to change it up it cannot always be zone it definitely cannot always be mad present make him think and work through things that's the only way to stop otherwise you're just he's just gonna pick it apart all right so

challenger Ohio State's offensive line so we know the right tackle there is not solid first play of the game he everybody's running outside zone right he runs to left run straight goes tackle gets benched and then he comes back later but their tackles both have been quick setting man they're not getting a lot of death if they continue to quick set like that and they're in passing downs they will give up sacks so challenge the tackles in that regard now they're able to say and standard downs and the password doesn't matter then it neutralizes it you need to actually be able to get them in those passing downs to take advantage they had some cohesion issues as well in the run and they had issues passing off stunts one of the sacks through the a gap they weren't able to identify hits saying straight up so be aware the other sack the running back busted and I think the left tackle busted so they've had some issues there man challenge Ohio State's offensive line a lot can change in a week there but definitely something I want to test out for those seems like the the thinker thinks that julien sands about to get unleashed as a weapon in the run

game today which I find I don't have a like it can happen in the red zone like here here this how Quinn you was was like if you leave part the season he can run straight like saying it's called tight end mobile sure it's like no one's saying he I hate this new wave of football it's like we're saying in quarterback can't run we're not talking about 1990s we're saying he's not an effective runner like you're not going to design runs for him unless it's in the red zone or something tricky like can julien sands move his feet quick enough to gather yes but that's not julien sands play style he's a deadly accurate pocket pass he had it right the first time when he said super computer and he's not a super athlete he's a super computer first and foremost and that's how they want to operate yeah and it's like sure in the red zone if you leave him open like he can run duh but that's not what makes saying a special quarterback it's it's that it's being able to pass so challenge the offensive line we're having to move quickly protect the intermediate I kind of talked about this all against ball state they were playing back and guess what they were just going

here's 15 yards here's 15 yards here's 15 yards don't get up so obsessed with protecting deep all the time that you actually just let them march up and down the field that's a huge factor for me and then limit the explosives in the run game and the first half Ohio state against ball state did not have a run over five yards in the first half the second half I think they had three pretty awesome explosive plays but that first half against ball state they were not running well so shut that down get them into third in forever's and do not let legend Bay or Bo Jackson get the edge and go score on you guys yeah with you I mean again I think the game comes down to Texas can stop or limit Ohio state's run game on first and second downs because I think they will challenge Ohio state soft and sublime you know that the to save in Kirby smart most we know those playbooks are thick and dense and there's going to be all types of wrinkles on helping get pressure on Julian saying so I feel good about if Texas can get Ohio state into a lot of third and medium-sterd and longs but you got to get them there first and so it's not just my opinion

limiting the explosives in the run game but really having a good handle on what Ohio state's trying to do in first and second down because I do think at Bo Jackson is probably the best back we're going to see on the field today got a lot of respect for that guy you hear that the thinker we're keeping it real over here but yeah that's going to be huge man we won't need the explosives for Texas you got a limit on that period Texas defense the thinker thinks that we haven't done our scouting report prior to this but also cracks me up it's like can you name more Texas players we should be aware of we don't like we don't know do you know who legend Bay is like yeah we yeah okay we know who let's play football yeah you had tried to hey you guys should hear about Riley Petter John it's just like yeah we know man don't let the don't let the inside Texas name for you we're pretty we're pretty we're pretty well studied over here so I appreciate you hanging out with us though yeah so good legend Bay is a text player he's one of the most elite short area quickness guys I've ever seen though like he looks like he's teleporting dude yeah like from side to side now I mean it makes perfect sense that they they got a guy named legend Bay and then also a dude named Bo Jackson right and it bears perfectly with he he mentioned the NFL offensive coordinator

Arthur Smith who's the OC from from Ohio state his reputation in the national football league by the way was very much almost to an over it was over overly so run heavy and just two back sets and just pound the rock from a bunch of different types of heavy personnel so yeah it should be should be fun to watch the dude's up front to do that right you know what I mean like to imagine who you are like first couple of years of Sark's offense I mean 2021 was a pretty decent offense but you got to have your guys in place you know what I mean and so that's where I have the big question mark with Ohio state is can their offensive line properly execute that 12p like the like Arthur's probably thinking they they can my last major point here before we get out of here raw aggression can lead to huge plays on the defense okay so if we're going to be stunting and slanting and trying to do all this cool stuff you get out of your gap and those guys can hit and explosive they can go for 80 how much of this is restrained or aggression versus just trying to be wild I don't want to be wild because that's how you give up explosives in the past and the run

and we had some issues with that you saw versus Texas state and also Texas state moved the ball pretty well too not even explosively wise we were 129th in the country on defense and standard downs rate versus Texas state Texas states in awesome offense they designed the most college offence in the world they use every trick in the book but we have to be more cohesive as a defense because you can't get away with some of that versus not even some of that all of that versus Ohio but you see it versus oh you they play this style a lot with a lot of games and we gash them because the one time they get out of their gap they're running back's gone I want to see aggression from us champs defense I don't want to see stupidity so play play sound on the defensive side of the ball fell yes there's a there's a fine line between maniacal effort or like controlled chaos and reckless abandon you know it's a it's a fine line it's a fine and you need both man like you need this game it's not all about being conservative it's not all about being aggressive changes be

you need the off-pitch in this game but hey man it's it's about time for fellas yeah yeah it's gonna be fun of course we're gonna be back on for the post game too so the second the clock strikes zeros there we will be on here to talk about hopefully a Texas win because that would be very very nice and I think we'll get out of here but I think the thing was Ohio States coaching is is better than Texas that's this moment that's what we need to find out right yep yep because we have got outcouched in these big matchups this is the moment are they gonna outcoach us or have we turned that corner I think that's a really big factor pay attention to that during the game I also want you to head over inside Texas we have a game thread that runs the whole special offer one dollar for one week then 50% off year first year everybody let's go get that dove and this was brought to you by Academy sports and outdoor see you guys after the game and hook up
