1:00What's up, Matt? Good morning. Good morning. Having a good time in Australia. No doubt about it. It's checked a lot of boxes on this trip. And so the final one, the one that we're here is just, it's still one sleep away for me. It's, you guys are, you're ready. You've had your sleep. So the game's 530, your time. It's going to be 10 30, 5 AM our time here. So ready to get the same rolling. How you feeling, man? How's the body? So your body clock is the same as the 49ers. How's your body clock? Well, I'm sure the 49ers, you know, aren't conducting interviews right now. So they should be sleeping. They should be in their beds, just like I was a few minutes ago. But hey, I made a commitment. I set the alarm. I did get a couple hours sleep. And yes, had met, met Mike Holler and the whole crew there at, at the elephant in the wheelbarrow.

2:01And so I'm ready. I got my, got my water, my bedside water here. So I'm ready to rock and roll. Well, Matt, outside of the travel schedule and the travel plans, one of the biggest stories this week has been the 49ers kind of winning over the heart of the nation down in Australia. Now the Rams have officially arrived. So have the vibes changed at all? Have there been an influence or should I say an inflexuation of Rams fans over the last couple days? I have seen some Rams fans. Yeah, not nearly as many 49er fans as I've seen. But yeah, I did see some. I there was some at the place that I mentioned turned out they were like, it's basically family and friends though. I think that it was like these people were there because they knew one of the players or no one of the players. But for the 49ers, man, it's from all over. It's people from the Bay Area. It's a lot of people here from Australia. And I think you're right. I mean, you know, the four games, those players, if you saw all the press conferences

3:02they had, you know, those press conferences can turn a little bit quirky when there's an international game. And I thought they really handled themselves well. I mean, they hit all the right notes beginning with Kyle Shanahan on Monday when, you know, it was basically a 15 minute comedy routine for him. A lot of the player, you know, Dre Greenlaw with the great walkoff, you know, comedic touch with Antarctica and how close it is to Australia. I think the four games really did a good job of putting their best foot forward. And, you know, they certainly gave the people of Australia, the city of Melbourne, a lot of praise, a lot of props, a lot of references to the great coffee and the great meals they've been having. So, yeah, I think, you know, there's no question in my mind. You know, when you look at the 49ers, they've turned in Sofie Stadium and to Levi South. Well, the MCG could very well be Levi's Southern Hemisphere.

Yeah, you know, and these international games typically there are you know, maybe I'll do this to try to count, you know, how many different

5:06jerseys of different NFL teams I see in the stands because it is kind of if you're in Australia and if you're anywhere near where this game is being played and you don't obviously get a chance to see the NFL being played on annual basis. This is the first time a regular season game has ever been played here. You're probably going to go out of your way even if you're a Steelers fan or whatever, a Jets fan if there are any of those out there and actually I have met some of those. So you're going to be able to you're going to go to all those, you know, any game you can you can get a chance to see in person. And this is a gigantic arena. You know, it is a hundred thousand people. You'll see that that the 49ers and Rams will be playing on a little sliver on that field because of the cricket grounds and also the Australian rules football that field is gigantic. In football, Australian rules football is an oval or circular shape field.

6:12So there's going to be a lot of dead space between the sideline where the white line is and where the permanent stands begin. But it is very large and it's all seating and there's no bench seating. So it'll be interesting to see how the crowd is if it has any effect at all on how the operation goes as far as silent countering and like that. I'm thinking because the fans are so far removed from where the game is going to be played. Yeah, maybe that won't be necessary. But I would think that it will be very noticeably more red than blue when this game is played. Matt moving on to the actual matchup and the X's and O's every time these two teams match up, we talk about the battle between Sean McVeigh and Kyle Shanahan. But how big of an X factor do you think where he more is can be in this conversation with his background knowledge of Sean McVeigh's offense? I think he has to be because I don't know that the 49ers will be able to generate a

7:12pass rush with just the one-on-one guys they have out there. You know, Bosa, Nick Bosa says he feels great and he doesn't think there should be any restrictions on his playing time. You know, this is the guy that typically plays 80, 85 snaps a game or 85 percent of the snaps per game. But where else is that pass rush going to come from? You know, Osa de Yuzua, he's never been a huge set guy like a double digit set guy, but he's going to be a really important piece for this. But with Rahim Ors knowing the RAM system so well and trying to scheme the same up, you know, they're going to show probably some five-man lines. They're going to be dropping people. They're going to be bringing people. They're going to try to kind of create that split second confusion for the RAM's pass protection to enable one of their guys to get home. And it's not easy to rattle or get after Matthew Stafford because he gets the ball out so quickly. But that will definitely be something to keep an eye on.

8:14It's just, you know, how often the 49ers bring pressure from where they're bringing pressure and also, you know, will Matthew Stafford be able to get the ball out as quickly as he so often does? I mean, nobody in the NFL gets the ball out quicker than he does. So the 49ers pass rush is going to be under a lot of pressure. And as Nick Bosa said, a lot of the key to this for the 49ers will be stopping the run first and second down to set up third and long and make Stafford hold the ball and then try to get after him as best way they can. Matti, the injury report in many ways is amazing. After an August of worrying about everybody, Nick Bosa is clear.

9:17George Kiddell is clear nine months after the ACL. It's all incredible Achilles. It's all incredible news except for the Alfred Collins injury. So Matt, as much as this feels like the Super Bowl, they will return to week two. What are they going to do about this D line this year? Are moves going to be made? Well, yeah, moves will be made at 1 PM your time there 630 AM here or 6 AM here. And they'll they'll bring up a couple of guys from the practice squad. You know, and also don't forget Sam O'Cowano. You know that I think they've lost three starters, you know, before the season starts. So although the injury report with Bosa and Kiddell and others is promising. And don't forget Fred Warner makes his return to you know, it feels like he's already made that return because he was practicing at the very, very end of last season in the post season and would have played at the Fort Eris somehow got in pass this the Alcy ox.

10:19But you know, losing Ricky Pearson that hurts Sam O'Cowano who probably would have been a starter that hurts. And then Alfred Collins who I mean, let's face it, he struggled in the preseason. But the 49ers were hoping that just you know that big body of his the more he played the more he knocked the rust off and gained experience that he could turn into a really good player. And now you won't have that opportunity and not only when he had that opportunity this year coming back from that Patel or tendon injury is a very big deal. And it's it's very difficult. And you know, for a guy like that who needs to bend his knees, who needs to play with leverage. It's just a really tough blow that you know probably not only affects this season, but will have kind of a lasting impact for next year as well. Matt one last quick question before we let you get to bed. The good news is that the 49ers offensive line will not be facing off against Aaron Donald in Australia. The bad news is I believe we still don't know who's going to be starting tonight at left guard. What do you expect to see? Are we going to see a platoon system throughout the game tonight?

11:25I think it'll be Connor Colby starting at left guard for the 49ers. I mean, he's the bigger known commodity started 16s last year as a rookie. And yeah, I mean, that is definitely an issue. I mean, he came out of training camp or began training camp as a guy who's getting that first shot to be a starter. He did not lock that position down. He opened the door. First it was Robert Jones. Then it was Carver Willis. Then it was Austin Pleasants. And now it just kind of has sorted itself out in a way at least temporarily with Austin Pleasants going on IR Robert Jones not playing well and getting released. And so it was basically Carver Willis, the rookie or Connor Colby. And I think it's going to be Colby and they probably are going to play this by ear a little bit. Where as if Colby struggles, then they will kind of make it of a platoon of two guys at that position. But I think they're hoping that Connor Colby can step in and build on what he did last year and just, you know, be a reliable player at that spot.

And we're going like position by position breaking down the rosters and we're going coach versus coach. And he brought up the Kyle Shanahan record of overall, I believe he's 11 in eight against Sean McVea. But to your point, Sean McVea winning four out of the last five. And he's got the ultimate bragging rights with that NFC championship victory over Kyle. What do we account that to me? That's Brock party. That's Matt Stafford. That's Puka Nukuah. You know, that's that young D line. Like what changed in those games to make them start winning. Matt, you Stafford. I'd say was a big, big part of that. He was part of the losses too though. Yeah, true. But there's no question that they are a much better team with Matthew Stafford. I quarterbacked and they were with Jared Golf. Yeah, Matt Stafford. Yeah, Matt Stafford went to the Rams in 2021. So in January, 2021. So in 2022, he played. Let's see. He's played one, two, three. He went Matt Stafford went one and four in his first games, five against the night. So what's changed in the last five Puka Puka.
