64. Hack Autoimmune Disease With The Wahls Protocol - Dr. Terry Wahls

Today's guest is the amazing Dr. Terry Wahls. I became a big fan of Dr. Wahls ever since I first heard her speak on the very first TED talk I ever listened to about 10 years ago on her journey into multiple sclerosis, which went totally viral and now has over 3 million views.

Dr. Terry Wahls is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa where she now conducts groundbreaking clinical trials.

In 2018 she was awarded the Institute for Functional Medicine's Linus Pauling Award for her contributions in research, clinical care and patient advocacy. What makes her truly unique in her practice is that she is also a patient with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, which originally confined her to a tilt-recline wheelchair for four years. That's a pretty darn long time. But still lightyears shorter than most anyone else who is diagnosed with MS who may be relegated to a wheelchair for the rest of their life and ultimately bedridden as the disease progresses.

Dr. Wahls' personal story is unbelievably inspirational, because she restored her health using a diet and lifestyle program that she designed specifically for her brain and now rides her bike to work every day. She is the author of The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles, and the cookbook, The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life. This is a protocol that she has been using with her patients in her clinical practice improving the quality of life for 1000s of patients living with MS.

She is not messing around with pseudoscience either. She conducts her own research now and has published over 60, that's a 6 – 0 peer-reviewed scientific abstracts and papers.
