A Galveston County jury sentenced 61-year-old James Elmore, Jr. to 20 years in prison for the role he played in a decade's old Texas killing field's case. Elmore was accused of preparing a vial of cocaine for 16-year-old Laura Miller, which prosecutors say ultimately led to her death. To Miller, Laura's father, spoke directly to Elmore after the sentencing. I wish you the best. And unfortunately you're going to die in prison. I hope you can find some peace someday in your life. Tim says he's been seeking justice for his daughter for over 40 years. The Texas A&M System Board of Regents approved the removal of over 200 courses from its core curriculum to comply with a new state law. Our Kyle McClanigan reports that courses on LGBTQ studies, race and gender are among those slated for removal. The move comes as Texas A&M aims to comply with Senate Bill 37, mandating state-funded universities

A Parkland Health Study could help address a common but life-threatening pregnancy complication. Our Abigail Roman reports researchers found universally prescribed aspirin led to a significant decrease in preclampsia. Preclampsia involves dangerously high blood pressure, achingly deceitier, stroke or even death for both the parent and the child if left untreated. Dr. Lane Durey, led the study at Parkland Memorial Hospital. She says prescribing every pregnant patient a daily load dose aspirin tablet at their first prenatal visit, decreased the likelihood of developing severe preclampsia by 26%.

2:05One thing that this might do is move the needle and make positions in other providers more comfortable giving aspirin to a larger population who could benefit from it. Durey says the study was also able to show there were no severe adverse effects associated with universally prescribing aspirin. I'm Abigail Roman in Dallas. Six people have been taken to the hospital after a suspected wrong way drunk driver crashed into several vehicles in Northwest Harris County. This after a brief pursuit of the vehicle, police say it happened on Muski Road and FM 2920. The suspect is one of the six people that were taken to the hospital. The driver is charged with evading arrest in addition to a DWI. In sports, the Astros beat the White Sox yesterday six to two. They end up taking three out of four big games in that series and they play the Diamond Bucks next. That will be a three game series with one of those beginning today. We are in the final month of the regular season now and the Astros are two games up on the Rangers for first place in the division.
