About this episode
7 Good Minutes is made possible by:
It's a simple four-part practice: name what's actually happening, remind yourself it's a normal response to overload, ask what you genuinely need right now, and choose one small next step you can actually take.
It takes about two minutes, and it won't clear your whole list. But it changes what happens in the ten seconds right after you notice you're behind — and that's usually what decides everything else.

Brilliantly boring since 1865. I like things my way, my coffee, my schedule, and my treatment. So I talked to my doctor about self-injecting with the VivGuard Hydrilo-Prefilled Surrench, which contains F-Guard Tiga-Mod Alpha and Hyla-Rona-Dase QVFC. It's injected under your skin subcutaneously. It means I can inject in my space on my time. It's my treatment my way. Visit VivGuardMyWay.com. And talk to your doctor about VivGuard Hydrilo. Brought to you by Argenics. Clyde Lee Dennis here with today's episode of 7 Good Minutes Extra. Today's idea in short. Feeling behind in your life usually means you're overloaded, not lazy. And getting harder on yourself about it makes things worse, not better. There's a simple way to respond to yourself in the exact moment that feeling shows up. It's called the same kindness check. First, notice the moment. It usually arrives as a specific thought. I should be further along.
What's wrong with me? Right after you see a stalled task or a comparison that makes you feel behind. That's your cue. Second, name it plainly. This is a moment of struggle and I'm overloaded right now. Don't minimize it. Don't dramatize it. Just describe it accurately. Third, remind yourself of the plane fact behind it. Depleted capacity under overload is ordinary and well documented. It happens to anyone carrying what you're carrying. It isn't proof of anything wrong with you. Fourth, ask the question that actually moves things forward. What would I say to a friend who told me this? What do I actually need right now? It might be rest, help, a smaller version of the task, or permission to do it tomorrow instead of tonight. Fifth, choose one small, doable next step based on that answer. Not the whole backlog, just the next reasonable move. And take it, or schedule it, before you move on with your day.
That's the whole practice. It won't shrink your workload and it isn't a fix for everything on your plate. But it changes what happens in the 10 seconds after you notice you've fallen behind. And that's the 10 seconds that actually decides what you do next. Until next time, I'm Clyde Lee Dennis, and this has been 7 Good Minutes Extra.
