Accused Gilgo Beach Serial Killer, Rex Heuermann Expected to Plead Guilty | Crime Alert 7AM 03.30.26

I'm Nicole Parton, Rex Huriman, the accused serial killer is reportedly set to change his plea to guilty for murder next month, according to sources close to the investigation who have shared this information with various news outlets, including the Associated Press. At 62 years old, Huriman was a Manhattan architect, residing on Long Island, before being arrested as the main suspect and the gruesome killings of seven women whose remains were discovered buried near Gilgo Beach. The victims, all young women in their 20s and involved at sex work, were found along the secluded stretch of beach not far from Huriman's resident. Initially pleading not guilty, Huriman had recently appeared in Corden, September, where he was unsuccessful in his attempt to have the murder charges separated into different trials. However, it now seems that the trial may not happen at all. Two people familiar with the case have informed both the Associated Press and NBC News that

1:04Huriman intends to change his plea to guilty during a court hearing set for April 8. The remains of the victims were first uncovered in 1993, beginning with a discovery of 28-year-old Central Castilla's body by hunters. In September 2000, the skeletal remains of 24-year-old Valerie Mack were located several months after she disappeared. Three years later, 20-year-old Jessica Taylor's body was found. The body of 25-year-old Maureen Brainerd Barnes was discovered in 2007. She had not been seen since leaving a hotel with a client. In 2010, the remains of 23-year-old Melissa Barthellamy were found. Barthellamy had vanished in 2009 after telling a friend she was meeting a man with her last known location, traced to Long Island. Additionally, 22-year-old Megan Waterman, who traveled from Maine for sex work, was found on June 6, 2010. Months later, on September 2, Amber Costillo, 27, was last seen leaving her home to meet

2:10a client, and her body was discovered on December 13, near the remains of Brainerd Barnes and Waterman. Investigators linked Hewerman to the murders through advanced DNA techniques as stated by prosecutors. Hewerman's daughter Victoria expressed last year her belief in her father's guilt, his ex-wife, however, has consistently maintained his innocence. In addition to the known victims, several other bodies of women believed to be sex workers have also been found along Gilgo Beach, but no other charges have been filed in the case. She has been assigned a bond of $400,000 for the felony murder charge and $40,000 for the aggravated child abuse. Additionally, she is prohibited from contacting her 16 year old daughter. And now an update to a missing person's story we brought to you earlier. The body of a missing woman was found in northern Kentucky. Police responded around 7 p.m. to a report of a body in a wooded area near Covington, Kentucky. The officers arrived. They found, quote, a badly decomposed body and requested the investigation's bureau. They believe the body is that of a missing 65 year old woman, Carol Groves. She was reported missing in December 2025. Groves' cause of death has not been released. Her death remains under investigation.
