Sarah, let's talk about this because it's a continuation of the conversation we had

2:20on yesterday's show where we were talking about the biggest threats to the Broncos inside the AFC. We talked about the bills. We talked about the chargers specifically in the AFC West and the New England Patriots. I feel like the AFC is going to be loaded this year with very talented teams. And the one team that comes to my mind first and foremost, I would have to say that's looking to bounce back that could be dangerous inside the AFC. I feel like it's the Baltimore Ravens who had a really bad defense last year. But Jesse Menter is a difference maker and we saw some of the stuff his defense was doing here in the preseason, healthy Lamar Jackson. The Ravens could be one of those teams that's back this season that Denver will have to account for. There's the breakout teams from last year and there's the powerhouses that we've all kind of come to expect to just be mainstays in the AFC. And what happens if the breakout teams from last year Cody and the mainstays that have been in the AFC are all good. Once again, this year not even factoring in potential breakout teams, but you said it. I mean, the Ravens are one of a handful of breakout teams, potentially, I guess bounce back

3:22teams more appropriately said because they won 12 games back in 2024. And when we've seen this team at their best, I mean, they are one of the toughest teams to beat in the AFC. They're one of the teams, one of the only teams that has beat the breaks off the Denver Broncos in the last couple of seasons, which they did back in 2024. Boenix is rookie season when the Broncos went to Baltimore. So we know what this team is capable of. Obviously a different culture being set there with Jesse Menter as the head coach, former friend, Declan Doyle now calling plays for the first time for Lamar Jackson. So once again, I feel like every powerhouse team in the AFC has a few question marks when it comes to the new, right? What's the new coaching staff going to look like for Baltimore? There's certainly one of those teams that because of their star players, you kind of expect them a little bit of inevitability from the Baltimore Ravens even coming off of a down year. I could see the Pittsburgh Steelers taking a step back this year, no Mike Tomman. You know, there's Mike McCarthy there now and who knows how that's going to go for Aaron

4:23Rodgers perceived, you know, he said it. It's his last season. We'll see how things go there. But I also think the Cincinnati Bengals are another team. I mean, Sarah every year, their offense, when Joe Burles healthy, their legit. They're one of the best offenses in the NFL. The problem with Cincinnati is that they've had a really bad defense. I would say since the Bengals went to the Super Bowl after the Super Bowl, the defense kind of plummeted downhill with Luana Rumo going elsewhere, getting, you know, fired. But I would say for the Bengals, if, say, if their defense is better and they've got extra Lawrence's off season, they could also be a problem. There could be two teams there, specifically from the AFC North that make it into the playoffs and the Broncos will have to deal with either of those two teams. Now they're not going to have to play the Bengals or the Ravens' issue. They will play the Steelers by default, how they finished in terms of division play. But the AFC North is not on the rotation this year. But if you get into the playoffs and you have to match up with one of these teams, if they're as good as they can be, Sarah, it makes the Broncos challenge to getting to the Super Bowl a lot more difficult and puts the pressure on them a little bit more.

5:23I would say them also another thing out of all the other teams, the Houston Texans are a team that I also hear getting talked up a lot. I think for them, their biggest question is the offense aside of all CJ Stroud. What CJ Stroud are they going to get this upcoming season? Granted, he had some of his playmaking weapons injured last year. They haven't had tanked down a while. He should be back at some point this season. But that defense alone should help get them to the postseason, at least in the AFC South. It should help them. But I don't know if it's enough to get them over the hump considering if they're offense struggles and CJ Stroud struggles continue. Yeah, the defense for the Houston Texans raises their floor so substantially to say, hey, they're kind of just probably going to be one of the teams that either wins a division or is a wild card team because of how good that defense is. The number one defense in the NFL last season in many metrics over the Denver Broncos even except in the SACS department. We know that the Broncos have that crown right now. But Cody, honestly, it's just a question for the Texans of, are you just going to be kind

6:24of the same team that you've been in recent years, right? Elite defense. We get it. Yes, we got the best defense in the NFL, maybe. But your offense has been just kind of plateaued. I mean, CJ Stroud hasn't gotten any better from his rookie year. In fact, most people think he's probably regressed a little bit. The offensive line has been an a renovating season for two years now. They figure that out. The running game. Do they have one? Is David Montgomery going to be the savior for them? You already lost another receiver this year with Tank Dell. Even coming off the injury, they've already lost Higgins, the promising rookie that last year who paired with Nico Collins. So I think there are question marks about that offense. I think still Houston is one of those teams that I'm expecting them to be around Jacksonville though in that same division is another one that I really know. Why do you let Travis H and walk out the front door in free agency? Why do you let Devon Lloyd walk out the front door in free agency? Those two guys were so instrumental to their run that they made in the second half

7:25of last season where we saw firsthand how hot they were. I mean, why do you let those guys out the front door when you have cap space to reassign? I just I hated their off season. I think Jacksonville had something special in their off season was just lame. I mean, I know we get to talk to them in a week, too. So I hear from Tony Wiggins, our good good friend over their lockdown, Jags. But I just don't know about the Jaguars in their projection for this year based on what we saw in the off season. Yeah, I think they were one of those teams that kind of made a little bit of a bigger leap last year than I think most people expected. I mean, obviously when you have Trevor Lawrence, you know, Trevor's Trevor's a good quarterback. That's the thing there. But the pieces around him have been hit. Miss and Trevor's had some ups and downs throughout his career as well. But, you know, I look at that decision that bring in Chris Rodriguez at running back who obviously had some success against the Broncos when he was a member of the Washington Commaters on Sunday night football. They have tutin the rookie. I mean, the second player who was a rookie last year who's very impressive. Parker Washington really emerged as kind of this surprise. Where did this guy come from? And unfortunately it came at the expense of going against the Debra Broncos.

8:28And that kind of just accelerated his season. Kobe Myers was a great addition for them. And obviously they're receiving court. Travis Hunter, what is that going to look like? Where's he going to play this year? Like, the Jaguars are this team that I have question marks about. And I agree. I feel like they got worse in terms of losing a couple of key guys when you lose. Devin Lloyd and you lose a guy like HN. Can the replacements that you signed or drafted can those guys step up and make you better? It's a gamble. It's unknown. The Jaguars are kind of this unknown. They're a question mark for me right now inside of the entire AFC. And I would even say the chiefs. What version of the chiefs are we going to get this year? Especially with the homes coming off the injury. They go out there and they get Kenneth Walker. They still have Steve Spagnolo. They revamped the defense a little bit. They have a lot of new faces. And even an old face too, a legiarius need coming in a corner back opposite of their first round rookie corner back out of LSU. So for me, I don't know what version of the chiefs we're going to get this year. They and the Jaguars in my opinion are the two biggest question marks in the AFC when it comes to how they might compete with the Denver Broncos specifically.

9:31So we'll find out here. Obviously, we'll Broncos play the chiefs week one here in just the six days. And then they'll go through and they'll play the Jacksonville Jaguars in week two. So we're fixing to find out about those two teams here relatively soon. But Broncos country, let us know your thoughts here. Visit Fandoo.com to get started today. Taylor Rapp is back for the Denver Broncos. What does that look like at the safety position here at the start of the regular season? We're going to break it down on today's episode of the show. I think everybody in Broncos country was excited to find out that Taylor Rapp had resigned Cody. This Broncos fan base, we've been starved for some additions to the roster this time. We got Jalen Waddle and Tyson Anderson. But Taylor Rapp, you know, he brings experience. He has won a championship in the past. He's been part of some really good defenses with the Rams with the Buffalo Bills. Obviously, and he's played in big games. So adding him to a secondary where you might have had some question marks at the safety position felt like a good move in the first place.

12:38Had to leave the team for a bit and go take care of some personal things that Sean Payton kind of alluded to, but we don't need to know the details necessarily of that. He's back now on the practice squad as you and I kind of theorized when he was initially cut by the team. What are you envision being his role early on? Do you think he's going to be kind of acclimating over the next handful of weeks? Who do you think we're going to see him against Kansas City? I think we're going to see him acclimate for a handful of weeks. I think the biggest thing for him, he was coming off of a knee injury last year, obviously, getting into football shape. You weren't in a team's building for camp and we know you have to learn a lot of Denver's defense. Now, the thing about him being a veteran and having played on some really good defenses is that Taylor is a naturally smart football player in terms of understanding scheme. It's just about trying to figure, okay, how does my role, if I had to get my name called, how do I come in and play right away? I think there's going to be some time. I think if something were to happen early on in the season, I don't think rap would be the first guy called up.

13:40I think you would see Devin Key and OJ Skinner maybe stepping on that role primarily at safety in the event of an injury. But rap is that insurance policy that I think the Broncos would like to have. Maybe the plan is, hey, as the season goes on, maybe midway through the first five, six weeks, you start to get into rhythm. We'll call you up once, right? And we'll see how things go. Maybe special teams. I think rap would obviously embrace playing special teams. You're not going to play much defensively unless there's like a specific role. I mean, the Broncos have proven to be creative over time of trying to put guys into certain roles here. But it just doesn't make sense right now that they would bring Taylor rap into play any defensive snaps or packages this early on. Insurance policy, special teams guy. And I think for me, the challenge and the question is there, what if there's another team out there that needs help at safety, that there's an injury that pops up and they try to poach him from Denver's practice squad? What leverage? I mean, it'd be hard for Denver to do that, right? It depends on the motivation that this rap want to go just play anywhere or does he want to have a chance to stay somewhere? Like that's the selling point of Denver.

14:41Like when he initially said, I have to step away. I got to deal with the personal matter. I think a lot of people were like, all right, well, that just means he's probably not, you know, maybe didn't envision himself as a good fit here. The fact that he is back says that there's something here that there's mutual interest he would like to be here. So I'm curious to see what is it that George Payton, Sean Payton, Vance Joseph maybe talked about with rap as the vision, right? We go back to that word here for him as the season evolves. I think he could definitely step on the field. Maybe after the midway point in certain packages, how likely is that to happen? I'm not sure though, but I think for me, the vision would be something along those lines. Yeah. Actually, he doesn't give off the signing a guy like this and then having him leave and then bringing him back, it doesn't necessarily give off the break glass in case of emergency only, right? I mean, like you said, to have a clear vision for a player, that's why a player would agree to come and to come back after leaving for personal reasons, right? So to me, it's less of a, hey, you're only here in case Huffanga gets hurt or you're only

15:45here in case Brandon Jones gets hurt. That's not necessarily the vibe that I'm picking up from this signing. I think there is a role for him at some point, but what that looks like is a bit of a, you know, interesting discussion because what have we talked about this offseason? We've talked about the Broncos already having a tough time finding ways to get their talented secondary all in the field. And when they do go to the dime, that's Jade Barren's role there as kind of that other defensive back. And so, I mean, does that change or do they, when they go to the dime, do they put rap on the field as the linebacker? I mean, I don't know what that would be, but that would be a pretty significant, I would think, role for somebody who wasn't with the team during camp, who wasn't part of the installation. I mean, he's a smart player. He's played, you know, really good football throughout the course of his career. But as we've seen, even guys who have played at a high level in the past, you know, you have to be careful about just thrusting them into action. So I think it'll be a handful of weeks here.

16:45Get him acclimated, get him up to quote unquote, game speed. However much you can do that at practice, right? And then give him opportunities in special teams right away to say, hey, go out there, go make a play. Maybe we'll get you a few snaps defensively. But if I was Taylor rap, and I'd played as much football as I had, you know, I would, I would say, hey, I'm not probably going to sign somewhere just to be on the practice squad and to never play and to never get called up. I mean, we've seen that happen with the Broncos in the past. Haven't we? Like what happened when they signed par him the tight end? You know, we were like, dang, that's a great practice squad sign. They should use him at some point. And then they never did. I don't think we're looking at that sort of a situation, but the plot does thicken a little bit when you start to think about, well, what could the vision and the role be for him in 2026? I think if anything, it puts Tyson Anderson spot as kind of not, not sharpied in for this season. He's on the initial 53 man roster and obviously we'll play some special teams more than likely, or he could even be in an active depending on where the Broncos choose to bring bodies

17:48up for Kansas City on Monday night football. But ideally, if rap is going to come to the active roster, it would likely be at the expense of Tyson Anderson, I imagine. So something to keep an eye on here is things go about in an order to make room for Taylor rap on the practice squad. The Broncos, they waved long snapper Luke Basso. They had two long snappers on the practice squad, which now leaves Mitchell for Boney is the only practice squad long snapper. They don't even have one on the active roster. So what this means and what this tells us here early on unless the Broncos make another roster move, it tells us that we know that Mitchell for Boney is going to be one of the activations for game day against Kansas City here specifically. I'll be very curious to see where the other one is. But to me, I also felt like having two long snappers on the practice squad, Sarah, I just felt like that was not, you have better uses at other positions right now. So Luke Basso, they said you're by to him on their note. There's always a chance he can come back at some point, but you'd have to make another roster move to be able to do that. I just don't see the appeal of keeping two long snappers on your 53 or even on your practice squad.

18:48No, I'm glad they kind of sorted that out, right? And that was always going to be one of the expendable positions. And you have to figure that Adam Prentice is probably going to be the other tall up. I mean, that seems like it would make sense based on the fact that he's doing the team sort of a favor by even going down in the first place. And so this is where those players that we talked about in the past sort of come into play. Sam Ellinger, obviously, little Jordan Humphrey and others on this team who you kind of look at as flex options. They're veterans who can, they don't have to go through waivers yet. That happens after the trade deadline. So until the trade deadline happens, you can just cut these guys, bring them back to the practice squad the next day, shuffle up somebody from the practice squad. The Broncos will manipulate the roster rules the best way that they possibly can. And so at some point, Mitchell Fervoni is going to run out of those call-ups. So you got to sign him to the active roster. Injuries happen. You know, you can shuffle these guys up and down at the Broncos stay healthy. So I like the way that they're already sort of working the system before week one because ultimately right now it's looking pretty good.

19:50I mean, in terms of the injury stuff, which I know we're going to talk about coming up, Broncos kind of in a enviable position around the league, I would say. Yeah. Well, now say maybe the only appeal to having two long snappers is that you could elevate one guy for three weeks. You could elevate the other guy for three weeks and make a decision from there and figure out who you want to do. So they give you six weeks of long snapper flexibility. You lose that by obviously getting rid of them. I just think once again, roster wise, probably the wise decision, if you need a safety over long snapper, that's probably the better value here for the Broncos going forward. So we'll see how the roster kind of plays shape here in the next couple of weeks here. Probably some more movement coming from them here, but also the other thing too, Broncos country early on as you start the season, you're typically your healthiest and the Broncos. They're hopeful that Marvin Mims will be ready to rock and roll this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. Support for today's episode. Though it does present a few roster questions here for this team as you have to get ready for Monday night football and you have to make the decision if you're Sean Payton. You go into this game with five wide receivers active or do you go in with six? So Davis Web utilized more wide receivers than we're accustomed to seeing for this Broncos

22:57team here specifically. I think that's a big question of kind of monitors. We go throughout the week. But Marvin Mims missed a lot of time in training camps there with the initial injury. He got off to a really strong start with back to back days of deep touchdown passes from bone next to Jared Stidham and then he pulls up Mrs. 2.5 weeks comes back against the Minnesota Vikings just to get some game run in because he hadn't gotten any and then he gets his foot stepped on. He gets cleeded, which led to a bone bruise and held him out of the kind of final week of the OTA training camp period types of practices just about a week and a half ago. But during Monday's bonus practice, he was present and we don't know what his level of participation status is just yet. That'll come out because now we are now back to regular season reporting guidelines. Sarah, we only get a see in the team stretch individual period. And then once they break off for team week, we're gone. We don't get to see the rest of practice anymore. So what was Marvin Mims level of participation? That is up in the air. We find out when they release their first initial injury report here this week. But where are you leaning at here, Sarah, when it comes to Marvin?

23:59What are your thoughts from a guy we haven't seen much of this off season because of the injuries, but a guy who's in his contract year who is so important to this team, not only on special teams, but on the offensive side of the ball? Well, we talked about it in the previous segment, right? The fact that feels like Mitchell for Boni is likely to get called up from the practice squad. Adam Prentice seems likely to get called up. So in the event that Marvin is not able to play in any given week, I'm not saying just this week, how do you adjust the roster to make sure you have somebody that can return kicks and punts back there? I know the Broncos have had guys like Tyler Bade, RJ Harvey, do it in the past. They've had Michael Bandy return punts in the past. So I don't know exactly what their plan would be. But if nothing else, having Marvin for those roles feels very essential to this team. And so I feel like it would be still an activate five receivers on game day. Most likely would be one of the little Jordan Humphrey or Troy Franklin being inactive for week one, which would be an interesting talking point for, you know, next week when we get

25:00to see kind of what they do in that instance. But obviously it would be huge for this team to have Marvin because of the opportunity for him to change the game in the return game, but also maybe pick up where he left off a bit in the playoffs. I mean, I feel like that was kind of an emphasis early on in training camp from what I was hearing and from what you were saying and others at practice were saying is like, Hey, Marvin is, he's making plays. He's getting really involved with the offense, right? And he's proving to be one of Bonix's more trusted targets. Like I've said before, and I think it bears repeating now, I felt personally like what from what I was hearing, the breadcrumbs I was following, Marvin was trending more towards being wide receiver four in this offense as opposed to being wide receiver six and just a return guy. It seemed like he was going to have a very distinct role in the offense on top of his return duties. And so I thought it was smart of them to get him some game action and to get his, you know, game feet underneath them.

26:01Obviously, Jared Stittle made a really bad throw that Marvin just tried to make a play, get stepped on, stuff happens. You know, it's football, but, you know, I think his involvement this season is rather important considering where I think he is in terms of the perception of everybody else on the outside. I think he's way more important than anybody really seems to understand. Well, I got to go shout out to an everyday listener, Randall Fritz. He's been, he's been on me because I've been talking about guys like Pat Bryant, Troy Franklin, and it's like Randall, I would talk more about Marvin than thing is. We only saw a little bit of Marvin and Trinney camp. We have to talk about the other guys that are producing. Marvin, and I've said this before and I'll say it again, Marvin is so valuable to this team. You want to talk about even just in the return game, Sarah, last year against Kansas City at Empower Philomile High, his first game back from what I believe was concussion protocol. What did he do? He had a 70 yard return on his first punt return to give the Broncos offense great field position. Marvin is a dynamic weapon. Then you go through, he had the return touched down against the Las Vegas Raiders on the

27:03road. That has a role that you take Marvin away. Nobody in my opinion on this roster can do what Marvin does. Not in the return game. And I think when you talk about clutch factor, the low drop percentage, Marvin doesn't drop the ball. He really doesn't like he's got the lowest drop percentage on the team. And of course, he doesn't have a large sample size in terms of volume of targets compared to the other guys, but Marvin historically has not let the Broncos down any quarterback throwing in the ball deep. He's not let those guys down. He's come up with big play at the big play, whether it's a back shoulder, whether it's against the New York Giants down the right side line. He's going up in Austin guys to get great field position. Marvin is a baller and I want Marvin on his team long term. I've said that. I think the challenge when we look at it is, well, if you have six wide receivers, how do you actively feature those six guys when Cortland and Jalen are going to be the primary two guys? We know it's probably going to be the third guy. How do you get a guy like Marvin involved is a little Jordan Humphrey, the inactive guy. And is it Marvin and Troy because of their speed that the Broncos like?

28:04Did he bring that to the table? That's where these conversations, I think it very interesting for the coaching staff. And I think if Marvin is healthy from running a football, it's a no brainer. He's got to play. You need him on the field. He is a true weapon that even in the loudest of arenas like Arrowhead Stadium, Marvin can completely make that crowd go quiet with a huge return or a big catch. His role is so important. I think Davis Web will find a way to maximize and use him probably a little bit more and he and Jalen waddle together on the field. Sarah, dig about what type of stuff that can do. What kind of fear that creates and defenses that maybe know that they're not the fastest and that they can't really match up with the speed of Jalen and Marvin specifically. And that'll definitely keep defenses from trying to load up the box against the run. Where we've talked about how much it benefits the Broncos to have all these receivers that are capable of making big plays, especially threatening all three levels of the field. It forces defense to adjust the way that they're defending this team. And so it just it benefits everybody. And that's kind of my primary takeaway from this.

29:05I know that there's no official injury report at this point, Cody, but everything I was seeing the entire roster has accounted for at practice. And that to me is enviable. I said I said it before, but that's I don't know that it's unprecedented, but I'm trying to think of a year in recent years where the Broncos have gone into week one of the season without anybody truly on like injured reserve or missing a game or two to start the season. I know Jonathan Cooper is on the commissioner exemplest, but obviously everybody else is available. And you've got one through 53, one through one through 69. If you include the practice squad, I suppose 70 because they've got the international guy. They're all out there. They're all available. They're all practicing into some degree. So that is a huge, huge advantage going into hostile territory to have your entire roster at your disposal and to be able to game play without having to adjust for all we don't have we don't have Marvin. We don't have Jalen. We don't have this guy. Got everybody.

30:06And that's a huge deal going into the first game of the season when you want to start hot. Yeah, there are some teams right now that have extensive injury reports because of journey camp because of the, you know, preseason guys just getting banged up. I mean that she's have several key players that are questionable at least coming into this week going into Monday night football as they begin their first set of practices. But the Broncos will have their first official injury report listed here today following Wednesday's practice of practice on Thursday. Then the practice on Saturday with the final injury report will come out. We will see if Marvin Mims continues to trend to being present for the start of practice in the eyes of us in the media who get to see the viewing portion and we'll see the injury report will tell us whether or not he was limited, which means that limited designation would be like position specific drills. No team full means position drills and team drills. Hopefully Marvin Mims shows up as a full participant throughout the week here as the Broncos get ready for the Kansas chiefs out of wrap up today's episode show Broncos country.
