I'm Ben Thomas with the AP News Minute, Yemen-Southis today claimed responsibility for a missile attack
on Israel.
Fayibul Gassim has more on their entrance into the war in the Middle East.
With the conflict escalating, the group has now threatened shipping routes in the Babelman
dip straight in the Red Sea.
A crucial passageway where 12 percent of world trade passes through.
This straight has become even more important as the strait of Hormuz is now effectively
closed, forcing Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia to send millions of barrels of crude oil
a day through the Red Sea.
In 2023, the Houthis launch attacks against vessels in solidarity with Razzah.
Between November 2023 and January 2025, the group attacked more than 100 merchant vessels,
sinking two of them and paralyzing ship movement towards the Red Sea.
If the Houthis start attacking vessels again, this would further push up oil prices and
analysts warned that this could destabilize marine security.
