This is Wendy John with your news 24 update. An Australian medical student missing in Nepal texted a friend 15 minutes before the flood disaster saying here and his family were attempting to reach higher ground. Rudra Iyer, his parents and brother are among 38 Australians missing in the region. The Iyer family was part of the Himalayan Glacier adventure group. Rudra reportedly messaged a friend in Australia shortly before they disappeared saying they were expecting a land slide. Mr Iyer's partner says she has not received confirmation on his wereabouts from DFAT yet, but remains hopeful. Mr Iyer's uncle, Anand Ishvaren, told the Australian he has travelled to Nepal to undertake digital tracking from when the family left the hotel on the morning of the disaster. The family is calling on international authorities to conduct targeted searches in Nepal in the search for more survivors. Former Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Golchevsky
has died at the age of 67. Mr Golchevsky held the top job from April 2024 to February 2026. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2025 despite not being a smoker. He returned to work six months later before retiring earlier this year. Queensland Labor leader Stephen Miles paid tribute saying I was fortunate enough to work closely with him through Queensland's most trying times, navigating natural disaster recovery and the COVID pandemic. Thank you Steve for your lifetime of commitment to Queenslanders and to our police service. And thank you for your advice, if it's support and friendship over many years. Two workers trapped in a hydro power tunnel in Nepal have been rescued. The pair were rescued nine days since flash flooding struck the area. About 900 people are believed to be trapped in tunnels. Authorities have told Reuters the two
survivors have been taken to hospital in Kathmandu. More than 1,200 people have died in Nepal and more than 5,000 are missing. US President Donald Trump has commented on the CYTA border crisis saying it is an outrage. Thousands of people have taken part in rallies in Spain. They are protesting the way Madrid has handled the arrival of at least 72,000 migrants in the Spanish Enclave. Donald Trump has told GB News he thinks Spain will be a ruined country after its failed relationship with NATO. He says the migration crisis in CYTA has been very sad for him to watch. And just in time for the weekend, thieves in the UK have made off with two trucks carrying around 70,000 pints of Guinness. 800 barrels of the black stuff was stolen from a depot in Chesia earlier in the week, valued at more than $200,000. Authorities say they had been hopeful
the stout could be recovered. Police have confirmed the famous saying Guinness is good for you, only counts when the pints have been bought and paid for.
