83 points. I have to buy a score the second most points in a single game
It permanently engraves his name in the NBA history books with an incredible form. It's 83 points move over Kobe Bryant

I'm Wes Goldberg host of locked on NBA daily and real GM radio
I'm here with David Romila. Both of us are credentialed heat media members who cover this team every day
We are recording this on Tuesday night after a game that I could say David. I never thought I would see happen
Let's just start with the historic context because I'm taking these running game notes
As I do for these games and at some point I just start taking running stats of just bam at a bios night on his way to scoring
83 points the second highest amount of points ever scored in an NBA game
So passing Kobe's 81 second behind only Wilts Chamberlain's 100 point game
So here's just I'm gonna just read you the list of stats and just records that bam breaks and it's just it's in running order of how this game went went
Kind of played out so
31 points in the first quarter for bam
That's when you knew something was brewing here
Maybe not this, but you knew this was gonna be a special night
31 points in the in the first quarter set a heat franchise record passing LeBron's highest scoring quarter
Passing Dwayne Wade's highest scoring quarter and stands by the most by a center in
NBA history
No center is ever scored 31 points in a quarter those 31 points in the first quarter tied Kobe for the fifth highest scoring quarter by any player
Since the 1996
1997 season he was the fifth player since
1997 to score 31 plus points in any quarter
Joining Carlisle Towns Kevin Love Clay Thompson and Carmelo Anthony
He had in the first half he had 43 points
It was the highest scoring first half in the play-by-play era or one of them joining Carlisle Towns is 44
Bam at 43 and then Kobe had 42
He became the eighth heat player of all time to score 50 points. He became
He scored 57 points and at that point had the highest scoring game by anybody in the league this season surpassing
Nicola Yochitch who had 56 points earlier this season
He surpassed Dwayne Wade's career high in heat history with a 55 points
He then went and surpassed LeBron James's
61 points is the highest scoring game in heat franchise history
He got the record for the most free throws made in a game in heat history and then later in NBA and NBA history
since players start first started being tracked in 1970 only six starting centers
scored 60 plus in a game including BAM tonight joining Yochitch and Bede Carlisle Towns Shaquille O'Neal and David Robinson
He then became the 11th player in league history to have a 70 point game and the 16th
game wherever it ever happened
He then became the fourth he scored the fourth most points in an NBA game ever
than the third most and then finally was the third player to ever score 80 and
Then surpassed Kobe's 81 when he scored 83 we are going to talk all about it
But you compare that to Wilts 100 and Kobe's 81
Here's how the stat lines play out you've got BAM's 83 points on 20 of 43 shooting Kobe got 81 points on 28 of 46 shooting and
Will our best record of that box score
Was 36 of 63 so Wilts did it on 63 shots Kobe did it on 46 shots BAM scored 83 points on 43 shots
So fewer shots than Kobe
He did get to the line 43 times 43 throws times from BAM. Here's my take David
This is the most improbable game in NBA history
There has never been a game like this
We are talking about BAM joining Wilts Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant two guys who are in the record books
Multiple times for scoring achievements BAM is not BAM is a defensive anchor. He's an all-nba guy
This is the guy that heat fans are like I wish he would score 24 points. He was like all right cool. How's 83?
This is I don't know where it ranks in terms of the greatest games I've ever seen the greatest games in
NBA history anything like that. I could tell you right now
It is the most improbable game that has ever happened in the history of the NBA David
But damn was it a lot of fun though. I mean
What does it matter like we're looking at all the statistics and I know that they provide some context
But at some point we're watching this game a game that's
Primarily based on putting the ball for the hoop and nobody with the exception of one player and
NBA history has put the ball through the hoop more than BAM out of bios at tonight
We've watched history man like that's phenomenal to see what he was able to accomplish on a random night
Against the Washington Wizards. That's what NBA basketball is all about because you do see the improbable because any night is a night where history can happen
And that's when we witnessed a night
What a fun day to watch and there are people who are gonna be
Looking at the way he got the 83 points or looking at the minutia and breaking down shooting percent
I don't give a damn about any of that 83 points
Like we're never gonna see that if I don't even remember Kobe's 81 point game
I didn't really remember Admiral Robbins's 70 point games like these games rarely happen and yet
Here he is
In history like you cannot erase them or to buy up from the hit he has become part of
NBA lore on a scale that some of the greatest players in the game that have played for this heat franchise
Shaquille on the deal Dwayne Wade LeBron James
None of them have come close to what BAM out of bio was able to accomplish tonight
What an incredible performance is historic on every level and so much fun to watch
I'm glad you brought up the 70 number because here's the list of players who have scored 70 points in an NBA game in League history
Will Chamberlain Kobe Bryant Luca Doncic David Thompson Elgin Baylor Damian Lillard Donovan Mitchell David Robinson
Devon Booker and Joel and bead and now BAM out of bio is added that list that again
When I say it's the most improbable game. We've ever seen in Lake history. That's not me criticizing it
I know you know that of course there. It's it's just my mind being blown here, but this is
BAM out of bio is an incredible player
You and I talk about how great and underrated and under appreciated BAM is all the time
It's kind of become the point of our show some days
This there's no way around what this is and he joins that list of players
It completely redefines who BAM out of bio is as a basketball player BAM on March 9th is a different player in the historical
Contacts of the NBA now on March 10th and then tomorrow morning on March 11th
It's just you can't ever look at BAM the same way every conversation we've ever had about BAM is erased and this is now
Like any conversation you have BAM from now going forward
This is part of it. It doesn't mean that he's you know like like impenetrable or whatever
It just means that this is part
This is like this is paragraph one of the BAM out of bio story right when BAM retires
This is going in the first two sentences what we just watched tonight, which is incredible for a guy who's a multiple time
All-starb in the NBA finals twice
Was robbed of a different player the year by Marcus Martin time all these things. This is an incredible thing
In terms of the way it happened people want to if they want to nitpick it about a that there was unethical how he got to it
What's the ethical way to score 80 points?
It's just it's such a weird argument. It's a dumb argument like to your point just have fun with it
Who cares? Yeah, it's just like it's it's every argument about an award
Just loses all kind of nuance like where you're talking about an MVP player or a coach and what their coach is able
Oh, well, he couldn't get a title like an Eric Spulster's case
He couldn't win without LeBron James in Swainway. It's like well, no kidding like who has won an NBA title as a head coach
without at least two historic well historically good players on the roster and
For Bambi to buy out to accomplish this. Yeah, did he take a lot of free throws?
You're damn right and the reason why was because Washington couldn't stop him because he was that good and maybe
I was telling the Washington some of these games and some of these possessions
It's absolutely an indictment on the Washington Wizards and nobody can take it away
But the same way that Jalen roses become a historic punch bag or a punchline for giving up 81 points to Kobe Bryant
Well, guess what the a team-wide
shameful award to be given to the Washington Wizards because not a single
single player could stop Bambi to buy out tonight like he was just catching the ball and unstoppable
Getting to the line being able to shoot from three doing everything he could to score these points
Again at some point you just kind of have to shake your head and just enjoy and relish these moments because they happen so
infrequently and what we witnessed tonight was absolutely incredible
You can't take anything away from it and I just defy anybody to try
You can say what you want to but you know what keep it to yourself
I least on one night relish in what you've witnessed because this is history in the making and we were all part of it
So what a incredible moment for us for Bambi to buy out for the Miami Heat for the NBA and fans all over the world
My last I want to address the one last nitpick. Oh, it came against the Washington Wizards
Kobe's 81 came against a 27 win Toronto Raptors team
And by the way the Wizards play other basketball games every other night
Not everybody's scoring 83 on them at some point the opponent is just like okay
Bambi there was nobody stopping Bambi and we saw that from the very first possession of this game credit cookies is next and boy Bambi earned him tonight

I wonder what flavor BAM would have had tonight because you know what whatever flavor
He gets to enjoy the flavor. He had wizards flavor
I'm not sure that's available in the draft, but you know what is cherry the all-time classic flavor the bright red
All the wizards have the cherry blossom jerseys. That's kind of I guess I guess you could make that point

Every day or well, David. It's another Miami win, which means it's a time for the tastiest segment of locked on heat
It is time for credit cookies
I
David's a special night of credit cookies as always we do have 10 cookies to get out
I think I know where we're gonna go with this one. Yeah, you know, I kind of waffle a little bit
Casper see I could show this really providing a nice boost to shot Johnson with a couple of suds
Simone F. Montecchio making his research is a four for 18 points of putting in three or four
Oh, who the hell am I kidding? Oh, Ted credit cookies gonna bam and a bio baby. He deserves it 83 points
Who else could get a credit cookie, but a night like him he almost outscored the Washington wizards by himself with he did in the first quarter
Yes, he did that's how good he was that's how his story his performance was
That's why he gets 10 credit cookies and nobody comes even close and I don't think any of his teammates would have a problem with that setting
Records in the NBA the Miami Heat and now unlocked on heat the first ever player to get all 10 credit cookies in one game
Rump up brown
So here's what stood out to me in the first quarter right when when bam just comes out very first possession
puts Alex R under the basket and just scores right away early post position out muscles the smaller Alex R and says and sets the tone
And says you can't guard me turns out he was right probably writer than he thought he was uh, yeah
So what really struck me though was collet wear sideline with this game with a shoulder
Bam doesn't come out
Uh for that early first quarter break because collet wear is sideline
So bam plays the full 12 minutes of that first quarter
Uh, and then it goes on to score the 30 points in the 12 minutes to open the game and with so many players out
Not just collet wear but Tyler hero Andrew Wiggins a bunch of guys in the rotation were out
They he needed bam to do what he did maybe they need 83 points
But they needed him to set the tone early and take over offensively
They needed somebody to be productive and when bam came out and said I'm good enough to beat the wizards alone
And then did basically did that
Yeah, that's as close as you're going to see to somebody winning a game by themselves right in the NBA and
What and so he gets all 10 credit cookies for good reason
But you know we can have fun with the 83 points and all that stuff the heat really did need a dominant game from bam
And this is the kind of things stars do is I don't care that this guy is out that this guy is out
You need me to scale up my scoring you need me to be even more aggressive than I usually am okay
I can do that and he went ahead and did that
You know what I I don't know if I'll agree 100% on that though
Aggression certainly the fact that he was willing to take on a much bigger role
I can't appreciate it. I do think that bam certainly understood that was something necessary of him
And at the same time a lot of the context of this game just goes out to window because at some point the Washington wizards
They didn't play defense for about 44 minutes and deciding the last four minutes of the game
But they would finally defend ban and by or try to defend them a little bit more closely
Like I cannot believe how many times they just lost bam in transition like if you're going to pay attention to anybody
Alex are just with his back the guy with several multiple occasions
Yeah, yeah, the guy who's been lighting you up all night who you've already put on the line for 43 throw attempts
Maybe try to keep him away from the line a little bit more
But you know what to bam's credit. They just weren't really able to stop him
So you know what it's just kind of hard to separate
How bad the wizards were from how good bam was like I don't know that bam could have taken advantages of this
Any other team as badly as he did this wizards group that was just clearly outclass
He set the tone and it was a snowball effect, right? Like if bam doesn't come out aggressive in that first quarter
He's not he's not broke the wizard in this game, right? Yeah, he broke it with you
Yeah, they didn't know how to respond. They're like okay. Well, we're not stopping him
And at some point everything's just kind of falls apart
It's not a team that needs much of a push to go over the edge of
Being pretty bad in the first place
But once bam broke them they were like well, what's the point of really trying and they were kind of just like loosely playing basketball until the last few minutes of the game
Would have decided to ratchet the defense up a little bit and try to keep the ball away from bam
But they've seemed like mostly
Rutterless after bam was just as great as he was in the first half like he really had a phenomenal performance
And then look if you want to I know people will I'm already seeing responses to me on social media and everything else like this
Like I know people are going to complain about the way he got these points
But you can't take away the phenomenal performance he had in the first half when he was shooting the ball so well
And breaking the wizards and doing everything and on his way to what is it 46 first half
Points like that that's a that's a heck of a historic performance on its own like 46 points is a great game for any single player
And that was in the first half
And so from that point forward like you have to have just appreciate you know what maybe things fell apart a little bit
And he was in the game for a lot longer that he probably showed up or could have been other that matters
What did you think it was you could have just like just leaving them in for until
It would be unconscionable for him to do otherwise like I mean for all that we might criticize spoke for being too rigid
Or to kind of stuck in in his ways of doing things like he's a human being like and he showed his humanity night going
What am I and he had of course I can't take it and it's like for bam right like I mentioned he
So he plays the full 12 minutes in the first quarter comes out in the second quarter
Kasha Johnson is the back of five because no you know which nowhere
Ban comes in that comes back in in the second quarter
And then has that first half that you mentioned and then plays the entire second half in this game
And it was weird because the wizards cut what was a 26 point lead to 13 or 27 point lead to 13 in the fourth quarter
Which kind of gave Spowe the the the small excuse that he needed to keep bam in the game
But more than anything it was respect for bam the work that he's put in and says hey you come out when you tell me you want to come out
And that's essentially what Spowe told bam and then bam got the Kobe record broke the Kobe record
And then that was it the other part that I loved about bam's game tonight was yes
He got to the free throw line a lot he also got to the rim a bunch and he took a ton of threes and you look at his shot chart
Only two real mid-range attempts all game none of them came in the first half right those two mid-range attempts came like in the third and fourth quarter
When he was just sort of he checking over and over and just gun in for the record
But in the real meaty parts of this game
he was
It was as efficient as a shot chart he did this without the free throw line jumper
Which had been had become his patented shot instead he was getting to the rim the spin hooves were all over the place the three ball
That uh that he's developed over the last couple of years
This was the evolution of bam out of bio right this was it like this was the fully formed bam
It was I no longer need this free throw line jumper, which was a little bit of a kind of get around type of shot for me where you know
I didn't have the dribble moves to get by the biggest bigs
Um and I didn't have the size to kind of punish them in the low post
Like this was the fully evolved form of bam and the shot chart I thought showed it
Tonight in terms of what this means for the Miami Heat and the grander context and and going forward
I do think there's a lot of meat on that bone here David. We're gonna talk about that after this
Today's episode is brought to you by game time

Denzel writes in bam is a superstar in all caps William writes and this team needs a more scoring
How do we get bam to be more aggressive very funny William Malachi writes and let's go with a big game for my guy
Bam I've never seen a performance like this in my entire 28 years of living. It was quite the
Performance there David after the game the heat giving bam that 83
Card there to pose with it is a night that will all remember certainly
But let's get to some of these questions Billy writes and bam just secured his all NBA ticket right Flavio writes and I'm thinking that
Bam is listening to you guys he's going for the record question is does he really get all on that all NBA spot
David
We could debate the merits of banners and all NBA player two-way basketball player whatever
Here's my take you scored 83 points in a game you're all NBA
And I I'm willing to say that that's the case for anybody going forward
It should just be an NBA rule you score 80 in a game you get a spot in at least third team all NBA
You know what I think it's an interesting question because we did have this conversation in an early episode
We talked about bams all NBA case and one of the things that pointed out was the production on the offensive end
Needed to be there like he needed to have two pointy point games. Yeah, he got two more pointy point games
He got him in one single game. So I don't know if that counts, but it's sure
um
At the same time I kind of think it's such an interesting point because
I'm seeing all the statistics now. It's just been pointed out that bam is like the 38th leading scorer in the NBA currently
So not a top five score not a top 10th score
But what he does on a nightly basis giving you the defense setting the screens pulling down the rebounds defending at an elite level
Like nobody else in the lead can to be honest with the exception
Maybe a player or two doing at a similar level, but bam is one of one in that regard
And so often we don't see the scoring from him that people tend to use that as a point to criticize him
He's not aggressive enough. He doesn't carry the load
Offensively. He's not a superstar and on a night like tonight. He said
You know what maybe it's not that hard like I'm not gonna take anything away from him
But he kind of just showed that he's capable of these moments and as such
I think he kind of validated his all NBA candidacy by saying I could put up more points
But I'm doing all the rest of the stuff that none of the other guys on the all NBA team are doing and that's the reality
For as good as yoke it's his he does defend like bam for as good as sga is he does not defend like bam
He doesn't do all the little things. Well guess what bam had his big scoring night on top of all the other little things
And he has done well over the course of the season and that's why he should be considered one of the top players in the NBA
He proved that's his night that he's capable and he's capable of it on a nightly basis
He just chooses not to because he's doing everything else that matters and contributes to winning at a high level
And all this loss in this conversation is that he have now won six straight games
And they're looking like one of the best teams in the eastern conference after they're thrown in the Charlotte horns
Detroit pistons the Houston rockets in recent weeks
They look pretty damn good and on top of that
They have the best score in the NBA at least for one night on their roster
I do wonder if this has the potential to be this
kick starter for the heat and and maybe even really ride a higher high than where they're right now because you put
They've won five straight games going into this one
They've won their six straight game and they've got really good wins right and they're not just playing the wizards
And then that's every night they beat the hornets they beat the pistons um and so you know
And they started the the whole streak off with a really good win against Houston like they've beaten good teams
They've beaten the thunder this year. They beaten the nuggets this year like they have they have beaten the best of the best
Literally hit the highest highs of anybody in the league this season in terms of being the top teams in each conference
And then having the best game of any player that's played a game this season
I
I don't know what it if it is that kickstarter for the heat and and what it would be kickstarting too
But it certainly feels like the heat or riding the most momentum in terms of at least securing the six seed
And potentially even a five seed in the eastern conference and when you look at the top teams in the east now
And if this is like Pam's not gonna score any three every night. He's not gonna score 40 every night
I don't know what bam is gonna score every night. I have no freaking clue. He could come back and I don't know but
This is a proof of concept from bam
And I'll say this since the all-star break he's been getting to the spin move more
He's been a lot more aggressive that first quarter aggression not just 30 points every night
But like that's been a real thing right the first couple possessions kind of or add bam
And he's being a lot more aggressive of the score
We talked about this in our recent episode about bams all NBA case anyway
He'd been averaging 22 and 10 for more than a month even coming into this game. So
You know, put a target on his back a little bit like does he yes in helping prove his individual worth
This had also not just put a target on him, but on the heat in general like
We're only starting to see the buzz after the recent wins against Detroit and Charlotte
And we're seeing Bill Simmons and other national medium members kind of say oh here comes this zombie heat
You know, you can never count him out etc
But does this kind of magnify the issue to a certain degree because I tend to think it does like now
All of this feels like a team with momentum going into the playoffs
We're three weeks ago. They seem like they might be dead in the water and here. They are in the exact opposite end of the spectrum
There is no under the radar Miami heat anymore. They are very are they are very much on the radar
Yeah
Sam writes in where does this bam game rank in all-time heat games
You could just say number one and and that would be a fine answer right like it nobody's and heat history of scored 83 points in a game
Is certainly the most impressive offensive explosion we've ever seen in a heat game, but in terms of
Where this individual performance ranks all-time heat games? That's a really interesting question because the first
You know, it was the wizards in March, you know, and I mean like it wasn't in the NBA final
So it wasn't game six in Boston like the brawn. It wasn't yeah, you know game four dwayne weighed in 2006
Those games I would have ranked higher because of the stakes
But this is this is as high as a March game is allowed to go. I'll say that
I think it's a top 10 game like I mean the playoff games Jimmy's run in the bubbles final
Jimmy's run in the bubbles final
Like some of them the one the triple double in the bubble. It's got to be up there
absolutely
Yeah, the the game against the Boston Celtics from the brawn
Dwayne against the Boston that doesn't I'm sorry the Dallas Mavericks in 2012 11 like I mean I'm sorry
2006. Yeah, that was a whole different series
um
Yeah, so there are other games there that have that kind of historic context
With I had at its stakes of a playoff intensity
But as far as these kinds of games there's still fun like they think best regular season game
One of them absolutely. I think so it has to be like everybody remembers. This is my house from Dwayne
Yeah, I think now this is right up there with them. I but at the same time. Did you remember where LeBron against whom LeBron scored a 61 points
Prior to tonight
No, but I had it. I had the stat up earlier. It's a surely Bobcats. It's it was okay. Yeah, yeah
He beats a pop and that's the thing. That's where it gets kind of lost in the whole historic context of it is that he
He scores these big games against Josh McRoberts
You know and and other players like that Chris the Chris Douglas Roberts, you know other guys like that like so
Who's the Jalen Rose of this game? That's my question to you, right? Because we all the Jalen Rose
Not sorry. I'm famous because of Kobe
It's not sorry, even though that they kind of went back and forth for the first quarter of it
I'm like, oh, Saras really bringing it and then Sar kind of fell off
To me the two guys that guarded him the most like the faces. I'll remember reacting to bam scoring against them
Anthony Gill and then the
Voodsevitch guy
On on Washington those are the those are the Jalen roses of this game
Anthony Gill is a funnier name, so I'm willing to make it him
I think it's he wide, you know shared a nickname here Tristan Voodsevitch
It's one of those guys he tricks in Voodsevitch. I don't know how you can file out
He had five thousand this game Anthony Gill had five minutes seven minutes. Yeah, it was
It's really bad. Yeah, this is the best thing that ever happened to Anthony Gill's career because now he'll be remembered for something
So he writes in
Where does he where does Bam rank in all-time heat players in franchise history?
This is offseason content 100% but we've done it before we did it this offseason where he wrote well
We got to do it again because what a week for bam number one and defensive rebounding in heat history
Accomplished that this week 10,000 points. Just the second player in heat history
To do that behind only Dwayne Wade did that a couple days ago and now the highest scoring game in heat history the second highest scoring game in NBA history
Bam was this with this week and this performance in particular just cemented himself as one of the greatest players in heat history
If he wasn't there already he's there. Yeah, if you and I believed he was already there
But here's maybe the bigger point
He's now closing in out at on on Mount Rushmore
Yeah, that's exactly what I was gonna say. Yeah, you started to sniff the Mount Rushmore
Which is impressive like we talked about Dwayne Wade certainly is up there
You don't has them kind of has to be but you've got a lawns and mourning you've got LeBron James
So those are the first those those three names can't move Dwayne, so LeBron
You can't move any of those names
You D doesn't get consideration. I think you've got now you D was unimmovable
I think now you start to move them a little bit potentially for bam because now to me it's a it's it's Jimmy
It's bam. It's you D and I don't I can't yeah, I don't know
Like I would love I would love to throw Bosch and Drogett into this conversation, but you can't I mean it's it's you D
It's you D Bam and Jimmy and I think we did our list counting down top 25 of 25 right because it's the last 25 years
The top 25 players of the last 25 years. It was a great series that we did over the over the summer
And as we were counting down, I think we had 25 top 25 heat players the last 25 years
Top 25 heat players. Yeah in the last 25 years of heat history. I think we had bam a yeah
He just passed it as he moved. Yeah, that's the heck of a conversation
He's certainly worthy of that kind of I mean again like this is the kind of
Night that pushes those conversations forward like I've talked about it before
Bams
Not hidden the fact that he believes he will have a Hall of Fame career
After night like tonight
That conversation becomes much more realistic and I know the
Randomness of it is something that's gonna be held against him
But it doesn't take away from the accomplishment
Regardless of the ethics of how we got there the number of free throws and all the other sticking points that people want to point to
But he got to 83 points. It's will
Freaking Chamberlain beating up on guys that were like a book shorter than him
And then it's bam out of bias surpassing Kobe Bryant is one of the top scores at NBA history
Like that has to count for something
Um, I don't know. It's just like I'm
As we kind of just relive these moments. I'm just caught up in this the history of it
The magnitude of these kind of nights because you see them so infrequently
And even when Kobe did score anyone. I think people were still in shock and we're like oh
You know what? I honestly thought
That bam might get him close to Will's record. I really think he would
Why wouldn't you think night he was having three slating again?
I thought we're gonna fall or a couple trips to the free throw. I love when they're exposed to a challenge
One of those calls an offensive foul that I was gonna go in his favor is like yeah
I want to create as many opportunities for him to score as many points as possible
I thought he was gonna get to close to 100. I would thought he was gonna top 90 and I was like wow
Let's go. Let's do it. He was trying uh, so bam bam finished fifth
And our 25 of 25 series top 25 heat players the last 25 years
Duane Wade was first Lebron was second Jimmy was third CB was fourth
Bam was fifth now. This was 25 of the last 25 years, right?
So allons a morning
He did most of his good work for the Miami heat in the 90s. It didn't count right
For for the stipulations of our of our rankings with bam being fifth like if we were to do this now
I think he moves up the third
Yeah, I think he moves up the third. I think he moves past Chris Bosch. I think he moves past Jimmy
Yeah, I don't know how you argue it like he's in the record books like that's it
Um, so
Unbelievable game from Bam out of bio water performance and unbelievable night and one that we will not forget
