You are Lockdown Gators, your daily podcast on the Florida Gators. Part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team, every day. Joining me now for Lockdown Gators is Kevin Rodgers of Lockdown Bets and Paramount Sports. And Kevin, you were here last week to talk about the Florida Gators and FAU game. We talked about the spread and that one. We're not going to talk too much about the spread for the Campbell game because Florida is going to win that game by... I'm going to lowball it and say like 10,000. That one's going to be a massacre. So not too concerned with that one.
But there are some marquee matchups, especially in conference and especially on Florida schedule. I think we have to look at and maybe the biggest game in the entire country this week is Texas Ohio State. Texas currently, a favor by a point and a half in that one. Of course Ohio State won last year. That was in Columbus. How do you feel about this matchup as we head into it? Brandon, thank you for having me back. And I will first forget to that game. I'm not even offering an apology. I'm just saying yes, we were off an FAU last week. Nobody ever said Florida was going to lose that game to FAU. It was I didn't think they were going to cover that number. And offense was great. You can't take anything away from them last week in that game. I stayed with you for some role on the sidelines for the Gators. So see how it goes moving forward with them. And obviously we're not going to take the Campbell game. They're linked 50. There's no more staying away from that one. All right, so let's get to this Texas Ohio State game first. And like you mentioned last year in Columbus, the Buck Eys 1, 14, 7 arch manning. There were turnovers in the red zone.
They couldn't get it going there. Texas did out game Ohio State 336 to 203. So Longhorn did a good job in the Yarders department. Just couldn't get over the hump against the Buck Eys. But what's key here for Texas Brandon is a couple weapons around arch manning now. Hollywood smothers are running back from NC State. Also, Cam Coleman, who came in from Auburn, a wide receiver. Definitely going to help out arch in this offense. And yeah, they rolled against Texas State last week. And you know, this is a game for Sark and for Arch that they need to grab this one. That there's going to be some spots in SEC play that will be tough. And obviously anybody that loses this game will still be fine for the college football play. Also, it's not win or else your season's over. But you also don't want to get that one lost to where like Ohio State can lose this and still be fine where Texas loses this. You got to be careful with some of the road games coming up in a SEC play.
But obviously we'll see how the offensive defensive line do for Texas in this one against Ohio State. But I do believe that the long horns will come out on top here. Get the home win over the buck guys. Yeah, I like that you mentioned, by the way, that you know, this, this loss is not one that's going to knock a team out of the college will play off or anything like that. Which is interesting because last year when Texas lost a Steve Syracusean came out and he ever after the season, he's like, ah, if we beat Ohio State, we're in and that's like, well, if you also beat four and eight Florida, you probably, you probably make it in. This game is not going to be the one where teams look at the committee looks at and goes, ah, they're just they're just not up to it. But it is going to be a potential. That's what I'll play off. Pre-Match, I'm going to call it maybe in the playoff, we get a rematch of this one. Then you have Oklahoma, Texas rival and who Florida plays in about a month and a half, almost two months. Over Michigan five and a half point favorites and that one Michigan, of course, had.
Lost and then one last week, I guess, I guess I'll say against Western Michigan. What's your read on this one? Yeah, they lost a 60 minute game, but one of the 60 minute and one second game. So that's how it turned out for Michigan and just so many emotions there for Kyle Woodingham and the Wolverines, where you thought that one, you know, was in the bag as far as a loss. With one second left and all the all the stuff about the clock, because it hit in clock somewhere. It's not the same clock as TV and in the stadium and we're giving another second. And you kind of wonder, even though you won that game, where your psyche is coming into this one, where you're taking about 10 steps up from Western Michigan. Now, facing Oklahoma coming up Saturday and we do like the Sooners here over the Wolverines. Obviously, you have a quarterback mismatch here with John Mateer, the Sooners quarterback, excellent quarterback, who was hurt last year, had a finger injury that is numbers kind of suffered a bit. But now he's healthy again and they took care of you, Tech last week for Bryce Underwood had 170 yards passing against Western Michigan, which included the 47 yard Hail Mary at the end.
So he did nothing. That whole game and needed that extra play, just a boost as numbers, even close to 200 yards passing. We know that Michigan, not the team they were a few years ago. And even though they're getting points here, I got to believe that it's time of distractions. It's just kind of where your mind is after how that game ended against Western Michigan. Now you're facing an SEC team at home. Let's lay the points of the Oklahoma. I think they take care of business here and they beat Michigan on the road. Yeah, we'll say I personally do not bet a ton on games in college specifically. I did take Oklahoma minus five and a half. I was like, after Michigan last week and how they carried themselves and pressors this week, it goes just like that team is not a team that's ready to deal with Oklahoma right now. So I'm taking Oklahoma there. If you've got a sweet tooth, like I do, then you know how tough it is to find that perfect treat without all of the sugar.

I think people are now talking about like a Kentucky might actually might actually be a threat here. You guys buy into that right now or what are we looking at with this one? You got a lot of factors in this one. Number one, Alabama. We know how great they are at home, but on the road, a little different story under Kaelin DeBorne. And we saw them losing Florida state last year. They've had their struggles away from Tuscaloosa. We're going to take the points of the wildcats here that Kiela Russell, his first road start and he played well. Last week and then blow out over East Carolina at home, but going to Lexington coming up Saturday where Kentucky. We know they're not in the top half or I guess the top tier of the SEC, but it's still going to be a big one for them.
Will Stein, his first SEC game as head coach and coming out from Oregon that look, you know, you're not drawing a middle of the road or bottom tier SEC team. You got Alabama added a gauge. They should be pretty jack for this one. Alabama's running game. We know it struggled last year and didn't get a lot going against East Carolina. So we'll see how that affects them. But again, Alabama just, you can say it's about a lot of teams and I understand I'm stating the obvious here, but they're just not the same team on the road as they are at home. And this is a lot of points to lay here. Kentucky, I'm not going to say they're going to pull the outright upstep. I think they can stay within the number here. Keep it close if they win. OK, but I don't think Alabama blows them out. Let's take the points with the wildcats. Yeah, I will love to say, by the way, since we're talking about Alabama. Thank you. Last week, you took Alabama over East Carolina, 28 and a half. I tailed you after you said that. And so I appreciate you for that one. Because yeah, they they sure as hell. When you were like, yeah, replacing quarterback running backs or severs. And I was just like, and I see, yeah, I'm all in on that one.
So thank you for that. That's it for Florida opponents that there's also a couple of other teams keeping eye on. One of them has a couple Florida ties. There's Tennessee Florida rival is currently favored by 12 and a half over Georgia Tech, where we took their offensive coordinator. And last week against Colorado, well, yeah, you could tell that we took their offensive coordinator from them. So Tennessee, you favored by 12 and a half in this one. What you read on it, Kevin? The yellow jackets, look, they couldn't get a lot of offense going. It's Colorado. They didn't score an offensive touchdown. They had a kickoff return for a score in two field goals. And that was it. And they ended up losing that game kind of inexplicably to Colorado. Last week, we're going to take the points of the yellow jackets here. Brent Key has been a pretty good underdog in Georgia Tech. He has several cupboards against Georgia. I know they haven't gotten over the hump in those games, but they played close against the quality SEC school. They got another quality SEC school with Tennessee coming in. But they're kicker missed a few field goals last week. He was two for four.
And it was the first start for Alberto Mendoza at quarterback. Obviously, he was the backup to his brother Fernando at Indiana last year. So now, you know, he's trying to get comfortable. And yeah, granted, you're stepping up going from Colorado to Tennessee. But also Georgia Tech's not a great favorite, but getting them as a dog. This is a lot of points here in Tennessee, rolled past firm. And last week, kind of a warm up game. So now you got to go on the road, face an ACC team. And Georgia Tech still was pretty good last year. And look, new quarterback. If Mendoza, I'm not going to say to you, give me like his brother. So it's asking a lot of you on the highs and it was number one pick of the draft. But I think it'll play a little bit better. Probably hopefully got some of the kinks out. That was a Thursday prime time game ESPN in front of. I mean, I get every games from a national audience today. But you know, that's kind of the spotlight game. Now it's a little more under the radar. I feel like even against Tennessee, let's take the points for Georgia Tech. He's been a good dog. Let's let's take them here to hang with the Tennessee. How much does it also play into it?
The Tennessee is a true freshman starter. And they're going on the road for the first time. It's got to. It's, you know, it's like Russell with Alabama. Like it's got to mean something that you go from the comfort of Neil and Stadium granted in one game and also you face an FCS team. Like no matter how Georgia Tech played against Colorado, you're still stepping up here. In this spot against the yellow jacket. And yeah, this is not going to be an easy game for him. That's it. Yeah, he got his warm, any played well against Ferman. But you know, now it's going to be a little bit of different animal. And Georgia Tech still played well defensively last week. They couldn't get a lot offensively done. Yeah, but at least offensively did a good job against Colorado. Yeah. And then the final game that we're going to talk about Mississippi State. One and a half point favorites over Minnesota golden gofers in this one. Kvaryo Taylor, of course, the big story for Mississippi State. What's your read on this? We're going to back the bulldogs here on the road. We mentioned it last week that Mississippi State in the open against Louisiana Monroe, granted, you know, a bottom tier sun belt team that they needed a big
win. Now I didn't expect to be 700 plus yards big, but you'll take it because they have a very tough SEC schedule at home after this Minnesota game. So that they really couldn't mess around in that one, get some confidence. They're going on the road to face the golden gofers team who is just middle of the road. Big 10, you know, they will probably finish round 500. When it's all said and done, we know they're not on the level of Indiana or Oregon or Ohio state or some of those teams. You know, they're not there. They're also not Purdue. They're also not one of the bad teams. They're okay. They're all right. A Minnesota be Eastern Illinois last week in FCS school and you know, it's whatever that was supposed to do what they're supposed to do. But Mississippi State's got to feel good about themselves after the win over Louisiana Monroe. Also again, with some of the teams you have coming up in SEC play that you don't want to lose this one. And then you got I don't like saying guaranteed losses. That's not fair. It's a tough game is coming up and you mentioned Camario Taylor had four touchdown passes last
week. You know, we'll see if he's like if he's that next guy, if he's that next DAC, you know, at Mississippi State. Could he be that next big quarterback for the Bulldogs? But Minnesota is all right. You know, I played well at the end of last year, but also still and basically a pick him spot. We're going to go with Mississippi State here over Minnesota. Yeah, not a huge Mississippi State guy, not a huge Jeff Lubby guy. But over Minnesota, I will take that absolutely. Thank you so much, Kevin. This is Kevin Roger.
